Good morning boys. If you have had even half an eye on the news over the last week or two you will know that Great Britain's 87 year-old Queen Elizabeth has just celebrated 60 years 'on the throne'. There has been pomp and pageantry, fanfare and ceremony, and it has been an altogether positive and happy occasion. What do you think of the Queen's role? Do you think she has performed her 'duties' well? What are her duties? What qualities do you admire in her? What value does she add to her country? Is the whole concept of a 'Royal family' still important in today's world and what do you think of NZ's link to Great Britain, as part of the Commonwealth? Should we be questioning the cost of maintaining this institution? What do you think Prince Charles (next in line for the throne) and Prince William (second in line for the throne) think about the possibility of 'taking up the mantle'? Should NZ maintain close ties with the Royal family (maintain status quo) or 'go it alone' and become a republic where our head of state is not a monarch? Your thoughts?
