I would think of the queen's role as somewhat difficult, even though people would all think her life would be easy. For a start, she would have to attend every conference and make descisions that most people wold never be able to make... on top of the fact that everything she does watched closely by the media. On dont admire her like some people do but I do think it is pretty amazing that she can continue running the country at her age.
Personally I dont think she adds too much value to her country... The same job could be givin if England was a democracy, and she doesnt seem as big a target for terrorists like the past (and current) presidents of the united states, meaning they must not think to much of her. I would say the royal family is slightly old in these times... In older times, a royalamily was common and meant alot more than it does today, but now, different ways of having leaders are more common.
The cost of maintaining this way of leadership is somewhat close to that of other ways, and it is effective too. I would maintain this type of leadership until about somewhat 100 years, if it was my option. Something tells me Prince Charles and Prince William will keep the throne instead of changing it, I mean, if you had the ability to do anything with your country, would you really want to give up the throne?
I would think New Zealand would be stupid to become independent. We have things good the way they are. If this was changed, New Zealand would change drastically and wouldnt be as well off. The queen doesnt have a very big impact on our country is what we think, but she does more than we might imagine...
