The Power of Music Matthew

I think music plays a big part in our lives. It can be profoundly evocative and I think all of us have had that feeling of being transported by the beauty of music.Suddenly feeling a sense of the sublime, not knowing if it's pure joy or shear grief. I heard that music can be so important to the elderly or disabled. The survey said it was like a drug for them. Music can bring them a small window  of clarity and tranquility that they might need.   I think Music has an animating power, the ability to move and induce feelings or moods so easily, but all in the mind, where we can't see it. A musical philospher once said that "we listen to music with our muscles" this is evident in all of us, and we can see it. We dance to the rhythm, tap, hum, sing or conduct the song ourselves, but maybe just in our minds.

My Dad always asks us if we can guess the instrument playing the harmony or melody in a song, and it's interesting to think that even though it's one piece being played, and appears to be a couple of instruments playing, it may be a lot more than that. I play three instruments and they're all completely different, percussion - piano, acoustics - guitar and woodwind - recorder. I wouldn't really want an artist coming around for a BBQ cause it would be rather akward and I know lots of musicians can have their personal problems. (Drugs, heavy drinkers...)  I wonder why that is.
