Good afternoon boys - What makes a good picture book? If you had to choose one as your all time favourite, one which really resonates from your childhood, which book would it be? You have already been treated to a couple of my personal favourites ( Mik's Mammoth, The Grufffalo, The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew it was None of his Business) and I will be sharing a few more as the week unfolds. My aim is to find my ultimate picture book (Nobody listens to Andrew - yes the irony is not lost on me...) but it is either in a box in my attic somewhere or still with my parents in CHCH. I love these books because I have read them to my own children many times, I love the artwork, and they are both about quirky little heroes who set things right at the end. Many of the best picture books use repetition, a problem/resolution, and eye catching artwork to tell a story. What does your favourite do well? Why do you hold it dear? What sort of place do picture books have in a library? Is there such a thing as a badly written picture book? Should picture books only be for junior pupils? If you could write one yourself what would it be about?
