To be honest, as a kid, I wouldn't be able to comment on this sort of subject. I don't really pay any attention to what the Queen does. But I am disgusted by the debacle about the royal family that almost governs what we do in New Zealand on the other side of the world. The Royal Family is portrayed as a "gifted" family, and they're followed by the media all the time. The amount of attention they receive is immense. I was so horrified how the duchess was followed everywhere and the amount of news her pregnancy acquired. I couldn't understand how matters like this could take headlines of our news, newspapers and radio talks over some other world issues. Unless I am mistaken, around the same time (early December, till early January), three New Zealanders were killed in a rare tornadoe, whilst Japan was shocked by a massive earthquake and following in its wake of destruction, a tsunami. It was even revealed to the media that the Duchess had acute morning sickness, how absurd! I think it's a reminder of a feudal system that we no longer need in this society. And while William and Kate are herded round the countries celebrating, there are children who live in complete poverty and could really do with some help and money that the Royal Family throws away everyday by just having a "Royal Family" alone, and with all the luxuries that they get it just shows those others that the rich and powrful are in control and have a hierarchy simply by persuading the country that they are special by conforming with religion.
As for the commonwealth, I think it's an ineffective and loose aggregation of countries, that, if disbanded, wouldn't change a lot to the world. It's confusing to try and understand the monarchy and there is so much contradictory information about what power the Queen has that it makes it quite hard to analyse the situation. From what I've heard the Queen has the power to sack a prime minister, declare war and make lots of other decisions, but decisions doesn't mean a lot at all to her, all the politicians just get her to sign documents and then declare that her majesty has made the decision to....
