Private Peaceful _ Ben

To me the movie was not as good as the book. The movie though did make me feel more empathetic towards the people in the story. The best part of the movie for me would probably was probably the charges in the war. I also think that "horrible" Hanley was acted very well. If I could do a stop motion scene then I would do The firing squad scene. Overall I think Private Peaceful was a very good book.
I loved the scene with the firing squad and thought it was very moving. It was a great movie and i loved Mr Tate reading the book to us. PS the curnall was the best

Private peaceful-Angus

I think that the movie was adapted quite a lot because it left out lots of parts. I think that the movie added value and took value away. The reason that I say this is that I think there were to many scenes taken away in the movie but I still think it was a great movie. I think that making the director did a great job of creating.

Private Peaceful THE MOVIE

Private Peaceful THE MOVIE

I think Private Peaceful THE MOVIE was a average adaptation of the book.

I don't think that the movie added much for the story of Private Peaceful besides confirming what some of the characters look like.

I think they had to consider the length of the movie when making it as it would be about nine hours long and no one would watch it.

I think they definitely should not have cut the entire assault of the German trench as it was a action packed part of the book.

If I had to make a stop-motion I would make the German gas attack as it was very dramatic and would be very fun to make.

I would rate the book a 9/10 as it was an enthralling and captivating experience to read.

The movie on the other hand was a 6/10 as it cut many parts that were good out and just focused on the war and action.

Jake Breslin

I Think the book was better than the film but, it was still a great film. Also I think they left out a few too many scenes. And I thought they should of given Big Joe more depth also they could have included the plane and Big Joe goes missing scenes. Also they should have given CPT. Wilky more time. The scene I would make into a stop motion would be the gas attack.

Private Peaceful

I thought the book and the movie were both really good but I do think that the movie could have been made a lot better if they included quite a lot more scenes. I think that the movie added a lot more experience and was very good. The biggest constraints are:
1. Not making it to long and expensive
2.Not going over the top in special effects
3. Not using to many expensive things e.g, planes
I think the character that completely nailed it was the Colonel and Horrible Handly   I thought the scenes they added were really good. The most crucial thing they missed out was big joe up the church tower. The book 10/10.The movie 9/10. so overall good. For a stop motion I would do the gas attack.

Tape Your Eyes Shut - Roy Krishna

The book was really good. It really played to your emotions and you really felt like you were in the trenches with . Where as in the movie the characters and the places are messed up and the characters are different in different jobs. I don't like movie because most scenes come too fast and the charges in the trenches are almost the same each time. Even though the directors have to take into account time and actors. They could have used the book more for the characters. Some scenes that were cut out needed to be there. Based on the book means: we changed the book and made more people get shot and less background info, the timing of some scenes could have been better done. Private Peaceful...From book to movie.- Tom A

The movie adaptation of Private Peaceful was moving and I cried at the end. I think that the main constraints of making a movie out of a book is that you will have both a time constraint and a budget. These two things together means that a director must cut some scenes out and that will effect the storyline. The main scenes that the director cut that really changed the storyline were the yellow plane, a lot of big joe moments and all the poaching.

Private Peaceful_ArchieC

I thought that the movie didn't actually add much more to the story because I didn't get anything out of the movie that I didn't get out of the book. I thought that Horrible Hanley was exactly as I thought and so wasthe cornal.

Private Peaceful... from Book to Movie-Judd

The character that really nailed it for me in the movie was Charlie Peaceful because he always helped Tomo out and then he got killed by firing sqaud. The scene that I thought that was strange that the director added was when Sergeant Hanley was crawling back to the trench and Charlie raised his rifle and didn't shoot, but still he accused Charlie of cowardice. An important scene that was missed out was when Tomo saw Charlie and Mollie together without him knowing. I rate the book and movie 10/10 overall because it was very realistic and actual happened in World War 1. If I made a stop/motion scene from Private Peacful would be when they were hiding in the crator.

Private Peaceful: Totally Creepy Smiles-Tim

Private Peaceful is a sad but interesting book. But for the movie... They all smile very dodgy smiles. Anyway, the movie isn't half as good as the book and I would recommend the book over the movie by far. Michael Morpurgo is a brilliant writer of  teens books. The movie makers cut out important parts to the book and added some random scenes that didn't happen, like the fragging of Sergeant Hanly, and that really changed the movie. If I were to choose a scene to make a stop motion video it would be when Hanly is crawling back to the trench. The book and movie are both good but I would say the book is better.

Private Peaceful...from book to movie - Felix

Molly nailed it for me because she looked a lot like the person I pictured when Mr Tait read the book.         The most crucial scenes that I think was cut was the Yellow plane  that visited them and when Big Joe went missing.  I would rank the book a 8/10 and the movie was a 7/10. If I was to do a stop motion video I would do it on the part when Charlie was killed.

Private Peaceful-Lucca

I enjoyed the book a bit more than the movie because obviously the book was more descriptive and the movie cut out heaps of scenes including the one when the plane lands and they get humbugs but in the movie that scene got cut out. Things were also done at different times like when Tommo says that it was his fault that their dad is dead but Tommo actually says that in the prison not during the war.  I also think the mother played her role really well. I would make a stop motion scene when the firing squad shoot Charlie. Over all I think this book was really good and it was also very cliffhanging.

That Movie Was Really Depressing-Hugo

That movie was so depressing. It was NOT as good as the book, like Ender's Game. They added some small bit's and changed some dialog but the mostest biggest change was that Big Joe didn't go missing. Also Bertha didn't die, that was a good change. I do wonder if Tommo survived the war, that would be interesting to find out. The charectors were not very good and I simply didn't really like the movie. The firing squad scene was really sad, don't worry Padams, I only just held my tears back. That was a really depressing movie.

Juddabar, is this what you meant:
In some cases, 4 or more members of the firing squad may be issued a weapon containing a blank cartridge instead of one housing a live round.[1] No member of the firing squad is told beforehand if she/he is using live ammunition. This is believed to reinforce the sense of diffusion of responsibility among the firing squad members, making the execution process more reliable. It also allows each member of the firing squad to believe afterward that he did not personally fire a fatal shot[2]—for this reason, it is sometimes referred to as the "conscience round".

Private Peaceful...from book to movie - William

I enjoyed the wonderfully written novel by Michael  Morpurgo Private Peaceful, and the movie ruined the whole Private Peaceful experience. The movie did little justice to the book, and the fact that someone should be allowed to make such a movie is a complete travesty. The producers/directors cut crucial scenes out of the movie such as important moments in Charlie and Tommo's childhood. Despite the truly harrowing experience of watching the movie, my overall rating for the book and the movie would be 6/10, the book being 9/10 and the movie 3/10, at my most generous point of view, trying to find the good parts in the movie. I would probably make a Stop/Motion scene of when the German  was about to shoot Tommo's, but doesn't and instead gets shot himself.

Private Peaceful-James

Usually if a movie is sad or scary you can tell yourself don't worry it's ok. It's not going to happen. It's not real. But when it's a movie that happened it makes it really sad. 😭😭😢😢😓😪

I think that they made the switch between book and movie really well. I was surprised that they left out the big Joe hiding scene. But when you think about it it doesn't really add anything to the storyline. Overall it was a vey great experience.

Private Peaceful...from book to movie - Atharva

Private Peaceful is a very good movie/book. What I really admired is how well the actor who played Tommo portrayed Tommo's emotions, such as the anger when he found out that Charlie and Molly had a thing going. One thing that is hard for directors/producers is deciding which parts to cut out. For example, if you have read all the Harry Potter books, and then you watch the movies, you will see that a lot is cut out, despite all of them being around 2hrs 30mins, which is pretty much the max time for an average movie.

Private Peaceful...from book to movie - Anish

The book had more detail than the movie, but the movie was well adapted with new parts. I really like the book better than the movie and I would have made the movie longer and more like the book. Like the Harry Potter series and it's movies are basically the same. Also if I would have a stop motion I would choose the scene they go in the river when they were young.

Private Peaceful... from book to movie - Noah

I thought that the Private Peaceful movie was better than the book. It was a bit different from the book but is still enjoyed the movie aswell as the book. I think that when people change a book to a movie, they need to be careful about how much they change from the book. I would rate the movie 8/10 and I would rate the book 7/10. I think that if I made a stopmotion I would make it of Charlie being shot, or the soldiers charging with their bayonets.

Private Peaceful...from book to movie - Mr T

Good morning boys.  Now that we have completed reading and watching Private Peaceful, what are your thoughts on the way that the story was adapted for the big screen?  Did you think the movie added value to the Private Peaceful experience?  What do you think are the main constraints that movie directors/producers have to consider when adapting a book to a movie?  Which character really nailed it for you in the film and why?  Which scenes were added (not part of the book)  by using a bit of 'poetic licence' to enhance the story?  Which was the most crucial scene 'cut' from the movie version?  How do you rate the book and movie overall?  If you were asked to make a Stop/Motion scene from Private Peaceful which scene would you most likely choose?
