T1 Andrew

My favourite class in t1 was probably robotics, just the concept of light sensors, ultrasonic senses and many more awesome aspects of robotics was overwhelming!
The most challenging part of T1 was probably the inspiration, coming up with he questions from scratch was difficult. Plist time has been useful for tasks and I think I used that time wisely. For the 'novice', probably the independent study prep stages took me some time. 'Apprentice', would probably be sentences? I got 10/10 most weeks but... 'practioner' would be art or maths and 'expert' ( if you take into account how many lessons I've had) would be robotics.

T1-Jim

It is amazing that the term has already passed so fast. For me I have really enjoyed all the independent study work we have done. I am really enjoying the p list and for me it is one of the most efficient ways of getting my work done and it suits me. I think that my and most of the classes behavior has been really good and I'm on top of all of my work. I think I'm a novice at kiwi quiz because most of my answers are wrong an apprentice at sentences because I'm getting small mistakes I should have seen a practitioner at WNB because I'm thinking hard about it and an expert at introduction because I only had to do two copies. I hope next term is as great as this one.

And Cut... it's a wrap- Nicholas

During my first term in 2014 I have been going along at a good pace and feel I am in a comfortable postition with my independent study. However I am a little bit concerned about terms 2 and 3 and we have science fair and production, but if I can keep working on my I.S. week by week I'll be all good. The piece of work I have enjoyed so far would have to be art. But as I have mentioned previously my favourite part of Wellesley is wharfjumping! It has been a little bit challenging with my SOLO because I am finding it hard to come up with good but 'straightforward' activities that I can work through without it being too complex. This is my fith term doing the P List system and so far it works pretty well. My conduct has been good. I am an novice at robotics  and a practitioner at WNB and an expert at science and maths. The lenovo tablets themselves have not been a credit to the school as they cost an awful lot of money and I, personally think that they have not delivered as much as a laptop of lighter weight and better fuctionality and I must mention that I have had at least 6 visits to Mr. Johnson who is very kind and helpful. I think that the tablets are good for blogging and web surfing but google drive lacks in a lot of areas. But it is all a learning experince and I think we have learnt from our mistakes not to buy lenovo's products. But then again having a tablet is quite fun for playing games.

I am really thriving on my topic NASA and my dad has found heaps of his information on NASA. The class books have been really good especially private peaceful. The movie was good but definitely not as good as the book. I am looking forward to my holidays up at Whitianga and doing the Otama Bush to beach walk.

Nicholas

Last day!!!!

Ahh, last day of the term. Not as good as the end of the year though. I think I have had a pretty good innings so far. I'm above the national standard in math, I have had another turn at doing my ANZAC essay. Oh boy, I had do a lot of writing, 1200 words at least! It's a bit of a shame I have to do homework in the holidays, but it's only seven studyladder tasks and two mathletics tasks, so nothing much. I've had to do way more in year six. One of the only reasons I've got this far is because I have my tablet. no not a medical pill, a device! One of the only reasons I've got so far without collapsing is because of the storys Mr Tait has been reading to us. One of my favourite ones was Private peacefull, because I got to stop the story to do a lecture on the topic because it was set in World War one. Now that's a wrap!

Term 1 Chicken, Tomato and Avocado Wrap - William

Term 1 has been great for me,  I have really enjoyed my Independent Study, on which I am doing the Kiwi. As I am the first pupil to get my 'green light' I comsider myself as an Expert at this. I have been helping some of the year 7s in the formatting and stuff. Overall, I would rate this chicken, tomato and avocado wrap 8/10, it could use a bit more seasoning and I suggest to perhaps put some mayonnaise in there aswell. If you entered this dish in MasterChef with a little more seasoning and a bit of mayonnaise, you may well make it through to the next round.

It's a wrap- Theo

I have really enjoyed this first term. My favourite bits of work would definitely be independent study. Most challenging has probably been getting my inspiration right. I think weekly tasks is great along with P List, it really works for me. I think I've had a clean slate this term. An area where I would be a practitioner would probably be maths. I am really enjoying independent study and I can't wait to get into it. I have also really enjoyed the novels we have read because are quite different and entertaining.

To finish up I have had a great term but I am also looking forward to the holidays to have a rest.

The first part - Toby M

T1 is finally over and I can't believe that I've spent nine and a half weeks in 78T.  We've done so many fun things this term like sailing, watching the Private Peaceful movie, The rise of the appliances and that's only three! I think Brookfield was a lot of fun and can't wait till we go to the West Coast. The work has been a lot of fun and I can't wait till next term(though I need a holiday).

T1-It's a wrap-Max

The piece of work I most enjoyed this term would probably be introduction because it felt like I was really expressing myself. Probably the most challenging aspect of the classroom is learning to work independently and managing your time. Task list has been mostly successful for me this term except in the first few weeks and in this last week because it has been a smaller week and I was too relaxed. My aspiration for winter sport is to have fun because I'm not trialing for anything. My favourite novel this term would have to be private peaceful because it was a really interesting way of writing and it would have been curious incident but the concept was a little to alien. And the one thing I'm looking forward to in the holidays (apart from gaming, yes Noah laugh all you like) is doing nothing at all.

T1-It's a wrap-Harry W

I have really enjoyed WNB and Independent Study as I can use the knowledge from last year to really help me this year. Nothing has been extremely challenging as I know what to do now and it is all smooth sailing but Ind Study is always pretty hard and challenging. The weekly tasks and P list time has been very successful in my opinion and I know from last year that you have to use every P list time and get things done early as it really adds up at the end of the year. I am really looking forward to winter trials this year and playing some more games as the mighty 2nd XI was heaps of fun last year. Tablets can be really useful when they don't glitch and shut down. I really enjoyed our novels this term as I had read all but Billenium and it is really good to read books for a second time as you notice a lot more. Term one has been a really good start to the year and I am looking froward to the holidays and a break from school.

T1 It's a wrap -Toby C

Term one has been great fun but i am looking forward to the holidays. I have enjoyed Mr Tait's homework  a lot. I am pretty good around the classroom but my spelling could do with some work. I am enjoying every thing about Independent Study's. I loved reading Private Peaceful I love Michael Morpurgo books at the moment I am reading farm boy which I am loving. After T1 one I am loving being in this class.

T1 - Its a Wrap - Henry C

Term one was amazing! From sport to camps and school work, it was  definitely my best term 1 at Wellesley. For me Wellesley really comes to life in year eight and so for me I think that I have really had the most fun I could.  This year Independent Study is harder but in a way easier because you know what to do even before Mr Tait says it and you have a picture in your head about what your booklet will look like. I am looking forward to the holidays but I know when I get to the end to the holidays I will not be able to wait for term 2.

It's a wrap!!-Ben S

I really think it is scary that one term out of eight in 7/8T is already gone in a blink of an eye. I really enjoyed the term, though. I really enjoyed all the work and Mr. T makes it all very enjoyable. Sometimes I see what some people do in the classroom; ie the troll face on the Smartboard. It's around this point when I wonder if Mr. T can be pushed too far. A bit of a mystery... The most challenging thing so far has been looking at the year eight's booklets, and I am wondering 'how on Earth I am supposed to turn out something like that?' As for our novels, The Curious Incident and Private Peaceful have both been good ones, but I am not sure I liked Billenium. I get the satire in it, but it isn't a very good story. It just doesn't have a point. But I know that I will look forward to the future terms in 7/8T, and I just hope it doesn't end with one week to go, and still no booklet. But I don't think it will come to that.

T1-Sam

The last day of term one is here during this term my tablet has not been working which has really been screwing over my work a lot normally people would enjoy using their tablet in class but that is the time of the day I dread the most (by a long long way). I hope to be getting a new tablet in term 2. So far this term has been good and I like the idea of no homework the cap was okay for it seeing it as one night. I can't wait for the west coast camp at the end of the term.

T1 evaluation - Noah

Term one has gone really fast for me. I thought that this term would drone on forever. 11 weeks for a term is a lot, but there has been a lot of things that have aided me along the way like: Robitics, Art, Preforming Arts and so on. The most annoying thing for me is the Inspiration, I think I have done about 11 drafts so far, and it is really getting on my nerves. The one thing I think I have improved on... well actually two things I have improved/achieved is WNB and Robotics. Last year I must say I wasn't the best writer in the class, and this year I thin k I have improved a lot. The other things is Robotics, Robotics is really enjoyable and hopefuly I will be doing it next term... (Pwease Mr Tait). The first week of next term I hope to get green lighted, and get into the activities.

Its a wrap.parw a sti-Tim H

I have really enjoyed the Lego robotics this term, because it's a really unique opportunity that most schools don't get to enjoy. The most challenging part of this term would probably have to go to settling into a routine of getting things done. Which brings me onto the subject of P-list time. I have been very successful these past few weeks, although it has taken me awhile to get used to it. I look forward to going to Auckland In my break.

T1 - Callum H

78T is so much better when you're a year 8 you have your routines which help enormously. I remember last year in term 1 I was so spooked with the idea of weekly tasks and by the end of that stupid 12! week term I was shattered.

This year I have really enjoyed my new maths teacher although I'm sure that last year's one is very good for some, his style didn't really suit me.

Overall I think term 1 has been a blast and I'm looking forward to continuing in term 2.

T1 -Callum Benfell

From Castle point camp to Wharf Jumping, term two was great.
I think
I am doing well in my
Independent
Study, as
I am really passionate about my topic
(
Biomimicry
), but I won't get my green light this term, as
I am going to refine my prep stages this holidays and will definitely get my green light at this start of term two.

I regard to what I think
I'm good at, I think art is definitely a strenth, but
I'm not very good at my Inspiration.

My favourite book we've read this term is Private
Peaceful by Michael
Morpurgo.

So, all in all, this term has been awesome.

Robotics - Henry C

Robotics was definitely the best science topic I have done at Wellesley. Mrs Hawthorne mostly let us go off by ourselves and work at our own pace and worked really well. If we were made to do it as a class and share what we did it would make it not as fun because the fast workers would be mixed in with the slow workers and it would make some kids not so happy. The red riding hood challenge was a very good test but it would take you three times as long if you didn't fill out the sheet before. If we had a choice to do it again as a class in term 3 or 4 I would definitely want to do it.

It's a Wrap - Ben

I personally think that Term 1 is the most important term of the year. Even though I say that it doesn't mean it was the most enjoyable, that prize usually goes to Term 3. Anyway, I thought that the hardest aspect of the classroom in Term 1 is the very start. This is because students like me have to get used to the transition from holiday to school.

I could honestly say that I am an expert in most areas of the classroom. I also try to help the year 7's with their work if needed. Now that I am in Year 8 I feel why Mr Tait calls it the "Mastership" year and I will embrace the concept and use everything I have learnt in my "apprentice" year to create a great Independent Study. Sport is also a factor in which I feel like I am in control. As I think about it, everything is a lot easier and relaxed in Year 8 so I will use that to my advantage and get work done.

I also think that so far the novels we have been reading as a class are a lot better then others. The books I am personally reading are "better" then the ones I read last year. I have already crossed off multiple books off Mr Taits book list. As  said earlier in this post I think that Year 8 is a lot more relaxed then Year 7 and I definetly look forward to creating a "good" Independent Study.

T1 - It's a wrap - Mr T

Good morning boys.  T1 done.  Finito!  Take a moment to think about what your first 11 school weeks at Wellesley have been like.  What class work have you enjoyed the most in the first term?  What has been the most challenging aspect of your classroom?  Name two or three specific areas where you are comfortable acknowledging 'assistance required'.  How successful has the weekly tasks/P List concept been for you? Explain (in a nutshell) how you see your conduct/behaviour at Wellesley so far?  Name a specific area where you are either ‘Novice’, ‘Apprentice’, ‘Practitioner’ or ‘Expert'. What are your aspirations for winter sport? How are the tablets helping your learning?  What am I enjoying about Independent Study?  A comment on our class novels/short story (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Private Peaceful, Billenium).  What will be the one thing that you will look forward to doing in your break from school?

Andrew - Robotics

I think that doing robotics at school is a great opportunity to learn something new (for most people). I've never done robotics and it's proving to be one of my favorite subjects! Although trying to find a best moment in it is difficult because it was all so fun, but I had to... probaly when the robot sensed noise (clapping) and then did an action. if we had a choice, I would definately vote for having more lessons on robotics in term 3, it's just soooo fun!
No, I haven't heard about the competition in NZ but it would be great fun to enter them!

Robots - Sam_

Lego robotics was defiently the best science session ever. It was really fun to do all the activities and I can not wait till we do the boxing also I liked it how we were in pairs even though my partner went off and built a Lego attachment thingy and barely helped me. Next time I want to us the sensor and complete the grammas house challenge

Robotics - Jim

I really like doing robotics at school and I think it is great that we are doing it at school because it is nothing like our other subjects. I am definitely learning new things and I really like how we work in pairs so that we interact with each other and share our ideas. I think that the equipment is really great because it it is really easy to make, download and run the programs which makes it way more fun because it is not frustrating at all. I would really like to continue in term three but I think it would be good to have a term break. I find the programming easy or at least easier than I first thought but one of the things I find quite hard is answering the questions because you have to test it before you can give a definite answer.

Robotics- Nicholas

At first glance the robotics sessions looked really fun... and they were. Me and my trusty partner Theo had a great time finding out some of the things that the NXT can do. After the basics had been covered in the first session we experimented further in the second session I saw the trays full of LEGO and I couldn't resist putting a little seat on the front of our robot for a LEGO minifigure. After that (and a little more building) we were almost ready for the little red riding hood challenge. So Theo and I measured the first bit of the challenge and set off back to our computer (unfortuneately lenovo) to programme our robot. Then we made it to the first turn and by then time was up.

I think that Mrs. Hawthorne has done a great job on making robotics somthing that we can do at school and we are fortunate that we can do this as it is expensive. I look forward to the NXT lesson and can't wait to do the sumo challenge. Oh, and speaking of LEGO reminds me that The LEGO Movie will be screening here in NZ in 6 days.

Nicholas

Robotics-Ben S

I really enjoyed this session. I really think that this is a great idea for the school. It was probably the most enjoyable thing I have done all year, and I have done a lot of enjoyable things. Robotics, when you look at it, is really quite easy and enjoyable when all the programming is set ourt for you, like NXT. I really would like to continue this for term three. I really think the class would enjoy robotics even more. And an advanced class would be good, too. It would mean that we could enjoy programming a whole lot more.

Robo-Tics Jorje

I found the robotics (heaven forbid!) Quite boring. Why? you may ask. The booklet thing was really boring as we didn't get any free reign or opportunity to build. Mindstorms robots are great but without the opportunity to play they are just mundane. Lego was made for enjoyment and creativity, with learning not a consideration. Just reading some other posts and seeing how the thought of using robots has been enough to provide wonder and simulation. I personally regret missing the easter service as it is quite spiritually pleasing (quite rich coming from a Buddhist!) and many people these days have lost the interest in the theological side of things but I am digressing again so to put it in the way that you will understand it, #jesus is #swag T.T.M.
Anyway back to the main reason I am writing this. I would like to do more but only if we don't have to do more nonsense like measuring how far it goes with one rotation ect. Meanwhile, creating a racetrack would be exciting as we would have to programme the bots to go around the course as well as using speed and skill to win. That is why they were made. We could even get them to play sports!
Comment below if you think that would be better.

Robotics.scitoboR-Tim H

The Lego robotics was truly amazing, what with the creativity in building the robots and the Persistence in programming them. Having robotics in school is great because it's good to have a change from regular school subjects (reading, writing etc.) and do something challenging and new. As I have done this before in year six and I already know quite a bit about the subject (although what I mostly know is making warbots and pitting them off against each other when the teacher isn't looking.) so I can zoom through the basic tasks and get straight into the good stuff. Although I found some things hard, (especially the grandma's garage challenge) I managed to enjoy myself.

Robotics - William

I really do like robotics, the way that the robots can be operated and programmed to complete the given tasks for you is quite extraordinary in my opinion. I am not very knowledgeable about how they work or how the programmes work but whatever way they do, it fascinates me. Also the fact that we do robotics with acquiantances (in pairs), allows us to really get the most out of it.

I would be extremely keen to take on some more sessions in Term 3 or even earlier if that would be possible. I'm not quite sure why Wellesley offers this sort of activity as another of the many oppurtunities but I guess it's just like asking why we have a three-dimensional printer, to which Mr Johnson' answer is "I'm not entirely sure either but it's another one of those things that is 'cool' to have"

I'm not quite sure how anyone living on the planet Earth could not be fascinates by these amazing 'critters'.

I don't know of any local robotic competitions but if there are, I'm sure we would all be keen to compete in them.

ROBOTS - JOSH

I thought that the robotics session on Tuesday was a new fun and challenging experience. I thought that the robots were really good quality and pretty easy to programme and use. I really enjoyed the challenge where we had to try and make the robot go down the roads and in to the garage!! I think Wellesley are teaching us robotics because it can help us in the future if we are going to come across some things to do with programming. Overall I found this experience fun, exciting and not too hard.

Robotics-Harry W

I am really enjoying robotics so far this term as I really like the way you can programme them using your laptop and see them doing the actions you programmed. I also really enjoy the missions or little challenges that have been set in our booklets. It is new learning for me and I really enjoy learning about it. I do think that the equipment is ideal for a class group as I also think that it is really good how we work in pairs. I most enjoyed the Little Red Riding Hood Challenge as it was fun watching your robot and seeing if it will make it. I think that they are teaching this at Wellesley because it is a good base for people who may want to continue on with computer programming in their life and it is also a great co-operation test. I would easily like to do more sessions in T3 because it is so much fun. The whole thing wasn't very hard until you got the hang of it but more complex programming options can become quite a bit harder. I don't know anything about robotics competitions but I can imagine they would be quite fun to watch.

Lego Robotics - Toby M

Lego Robotics was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a real treat for us, and I wish it was an activity last year so we would have had a chance to do it in year 6. I really liked how the commands were very simple.
Eg: If you wanted it to do a sharp 90 degree turn you would slide the thing on the bar left or right and set it to a certain rotation.
It was a shame that we didn't move on to using the sound and light sensors because those would have been a lot more fun. I can't wait till T3 when we can do it again.

Robotics- Theo

I am really enjoying robotics and would like to keep going with it. I think it is a very different type of learning and I think it is good as we are entering the technological age. The equipment is very easy to use as it is Lego and we are all familiar with it. The part I most enjoy is the problem solving and getting the programming perfect. I think Wellesley is offering this as an activity for people who are interested in technology and programming as there not much of it in our everyday learning. I think the easy part is programming it but the hard bit is getting the programming just right for the specified task. I haven't actually heard of any nationwide or worldwide competitions but they do sound interesting.

To finish off I am really enjoying robotics and I am also looking forward to reading Genesis.

Robotics Toby C

Before we had robotics with Mrs Hawthorne I really had no intrest in it but it is actually really fun. We has to complete challenges like drive along the street and go in the drive way then reverse into the garage. Also drive around the square without going off the line but when we get better with the challenges will get harder also.

Robotics Hugh

Robotics was pretty good although I thought Mrs Hawthorne could of made it alot more fun for the class. Yes it was new learning for me although I have done easyer versions of the NXT before. I think the eqipment was very good apart from the fact that I thought it was a shame we could not put the NXT programme on to our tablets.  I most enjoyed doing the red riding hood challenge. Overall I think I am looking forward to the next session of robotics, especially doing the sumo challenge.

Robotics-Will S

I love robotics and I think it was a really great way for us to be with friends whilst still working, I found it very interesting in the way that the robots worked and I thought it was a fun way for us to get out of the class room and do something that everyone enjoyed.
I also think we should do it in term three because by then we should all be working on our independent study and it would be a really nice way to have a break but at the same time be learning new skills and develop the skills we have already learnt.
My favourite thing about the sessions has got to have been the red riding hood challenge because it really put our skills to the test and it was amazing that we actually pulled it off.
Over all I think lego robotics has been an amazing experience that we were all very lucky to have.

Robotics-Max

I think robotics is really good for creativity and programming and it's really fun.
I would definitely like to do robotics in term three because I enjoy the sort of freedom that you get while you use it because you don't have a set path. I really enjoy robotics and doing this has inspired me to do more of it at home with my EV3.

Robotics - Callum H

In my humble opinion robotics is mean fun. I was expecting boring lessons about the science of robots but no we actually get to use really cool real working robots.
My highlights of robotics would probably be learning about seconds and rotations and how you can make your robot do really precise movements and other cool stuff.

Robotics - Ben

Before I entered the Technology room a few weeks ago I thought that robotics would be a boring coding session where we had to completley remake codes for the robots from scratch. But as time went by in the room I started to enjoy myself and by the end of the first session I was dying to do it again.

I think that doing robotics at school is a good idea because it gives kids the chance to try new things. Plus it gives us something to be excited about. I actually hjave done this type of thing before. I went to a holiday programm that let us make new games with coding. To be honest it was three days that I will never get back and that is why I wasn't sure about the robotics session.

Overall I think that it is a fun thing to do and its a great way to get kids into coding. I think it is a lot of fun and I would definently do it again if I was given the chance.

Robotics-Luke

I think that robotics is a one of the great things that we do as a class. We get to learn about a lot of things like coding, building and fun. When I looked around there was a lot of cooperation and mix pairs. I think that we should do more but not to advanced.

Robotics - Callum B

I think that robotics is a really good activity to do as a class. It was fun and kept us occupied. However, one thing I would change is that we should be able to build our own robots out of the Lego Mindstorms, instead of just getting a Lego robot and then programming it. Also, I think there should be more than one activity (in this case the Red Riding Hood challenge) to do, as with one activity, all the kids are crowded around one board, testing their robots, and arguing over who should go next. If you had three activities, for example, kids could choose which one they like, and then have more time trying out their robot on the board.
Anyway, I think Robotics has been really fun, and I would definitely do it again.

Robotics - Mr T

Good morning boys - yesterday you had the second session of three for robotics with Mrs Hawthorne.  I saw a very happy class who were motivated, engaged, excited, and challenged (the perfect storm for a teacher...).  One thing that stood out for me was the interaction between boys (7s and 8s, quite a mix). What are your thoughts on doing robotics at school?  Is it new learning for you?  Is the equipment ideal for a class group?  What did you most enjoy about the session?  Why do you think we are offering this at Wellesley?  Would you like to 'push on' and do some more sessions maybe in T3?  What did you find easy?  What did you find hard?   Do you know about the various robotics competitions held in NZ and around the world? Whenever I see those cracking little Lego robots I can't help thinking about Bernard Beckett's novel Genesis - no spoiler here - you will have to wait until I read it to you in T3 and then you will understand.

spoilers - Andrew

Yes, I have had many occasions when people have spoiled a movie or Book and 3/4ers of the time it's my irritating brothers. I always try not to, but i've spoiled a few books to other people. If I can remember, I ask them if they want to know the end amd sometimes they do so that's alright. I always seem to read the last page of novels, i'm not sure why; it's just really a habit. I think that movie trailers are a good way of advertising the movie, and it definately works on me because I (if I can) usually watch them.

Spoilers -Toby c

  1. Spoiler are so annoying when they ruin a movie for you I have spoiled thing before but that was my brother and sister. I was saving a rugby game to watch and guess what happened one of my friends spoiled it. I don't really care about watching the trailers but that is my view.

Spoilers- Toby M

Pretty much everyone has had someone ruin a movie, sport event or book by blurting out what happened from the previously reading or seeing something you're interested in. I think that it is not very nice and suggest that they stop. I hope that I don't spoil the Lego Movie for anyone(I'm seeing it this weekend). I also don't want anyone to spoil the 1st Hunger Games movie for me as I haven't seen it.

Spoilers- Nicholas

I hate things getting spoiled. The latest spoiler that happened to me was the match against Sri-Lanka in the ICC World T20 I managed to block my ears several times but at one stage I looked over at the headline ofn the paper and I couldn't turn away before I saw a glimpse of what it said and, anyway the picture said it all. The Blackcaps had obviously lost. I love watching movie trailers to determine which movie I will go and see usually the trailers are mostly spoiler free but in some cases the trailer gives away the plot a bit too much. I NEVER read the last page of books as it doesn't make much sense if you don't read the whole book first, but in saying that I ALWAYS read the blurb. I feel pretty proud of myself as I am obsessed with lego and the Lego movie was released on March 9 (I think) in the US and it is coming out on April 17 in NZ (Yay!) and I still don't know much about the plot even though I've seen a lot about it online. Animal farm was almost quite cool to be spoiled unlike most other content because it gave us as a class a good understanding of the book.

Nicholas

Post Script:
Private Peaceful is one of my favourite books now and I look forward to reading more of Michael Morpurgo's books.

SPOILERS-SAM

I hate it when people spoil things for me last year a single person spoiled about 15 things for me which was really annoying but I think that pays up for what I spoiled for my sister once. Our family every season watch a reality TV show called Survivor once I as 7 episodes off finishing it and that friend was watching it fresh from the U.S. so the season had already finished there and I asked him to tell me who got the one million dollar prize he told me and that week I accidentally spoiled it for my sister that a person called Rob had won.

A lot of the times I read a book after the first page I flick to the back and read the last page. I also read the names of all the chapters. I always watch the movie trailers but I only think the `unofficial` trailers ruin the movie. I always like to avoid the news when I don't want to know the result of sporting events.

A couple of days ago I was watching the NZ v.s Sri Lanka cricket world cup replay and I was really excited because New Zealand were going really well and should have won easily to make it through to the semi-finals when I sat down to watch the second innings (NZ batting) I accidentally sat on the remote and it changed to 54 and coincidently it as on The Crowd Goes Wild and was going on the topic about how poorly NZ batted against Sri Lanka and that they lost and it was so annoying (no good ending!).

I really hate spoilers!

Spoilers - Jim

I hate it when people spoil major tv series or books or sport games. Usually I don't read the end of the book though sometimes I am tempted to. I definitely watch trailers though because I love watching movies and how can you tell if you are going to like it if you don't  know what it is about? My family records a lot of tv shows and watches them later which means that sometimes I can hear the plot in conversation which means I find it less satisfying when I watch the show. I don't think I spoil that much but whenever I do it is because it was so good which makes it worse because no one spoils something that was bad. Spoils for books are the worst because it can spoil a whole series which is at least three weeks of reading. Overall spoilers should be stopped.

Spoilers - JOSH

I absolutely hate it when people feel the need to spoil book endings and T.V series, but I must admit that I get very, very tempted to spoil books and T.V series myself, for example... the How I Met Your Mother series finale has just came out and because my dad can get T.V shows as soon as they are released in America I had watched the series ending almost as soon as it came out, my friend who is also a big fan of the show could not watch the series finale because the website that he watches it on had not gotten the series finale and I got very tempted to ruin it for him. For some weird reason I always go to the last page of a book and look at the last word of the story. I always run away when people try to spoil my favourite T.V shows!!!!

Spoilers by Callum Benfell

Personally, I don't care if people spoil the outcome of a game or movie as I am usually more interested in the journey or the way you get to the outcome, rather than the outcome itself. I find it really funny when someone is obsessed with not getting spoilers on a movie he or she is going to watch, and the outcome is really obvious, for example not wanting to know the outcome of the upcoming hobbit movie when it is really obvious that something will happen, like Bard kills Smaug.

So, personally I don't mind spoilers.

Oh, and by the way, ❇❇❇ SPOILER ALERT!❇❇❇ there is a Hobbit in the next Hobbit movie!!!

Spoilers - Ben

Over the past few few months I have created a hobby of keeping extremley up to date on movie news. For examle I saw that a series of books that I had recently read was being converted into a movie so I kept tabs on it and just last week they released a trailer. Some trailers are very good because they don't tell you much yet they keep you interested. In this case it was a great trailer and it has only increased my excitment.

To be honest I have actually spolied some sporting matches on purpose BUT I only did games that you need to watch to believe (if you know what I mean). But I'm by far not the worst in my family. My father takes that award for his continuious All Blacks games spoilers (the ones at three in the morning in piticular).

Another habit I have picked up is to read the last page or half page of a book because it gives me motive to keep reading. I don't think that there are any spoilers on the last page of a book because authors prefer to go out on a whimper then a bang (unless its the end of a book but not the end of the series. In that case it goes out with a massive bang to make you keep reading).

LOL

Comment if funny.

I love reading books. I really do. It is such a pain when people come along and tell you that "this happens to this person", or "he framed and arrested", and "oh, they were hit be a car in the final page" or "hey, you know Ravel, yeah, he's the guy with the golden eyes that's been turning the warlocks against the mortals, and betrayed the Dead Men. And you thought he was a good guy! Etc. It really is horrible. I think it is better to find out in your own time, instead of someone telling you. Otherwise it will change your view of the character entirely. (And Henry, I still remember the Scorpia Rising "Razim kills Jack" incident).

Personally I agree with Henry by saying "spoilers are a current let down to modern society.' One (of many let downs I can recall is when my dad wants to save the result of a triathlon until the online highlights come out, about the next day. Baring natural disaster my dad is very good and completely shutting himself out from the rest of the world, and that includes social media and any other breathing  triathlon geek. Anyway when it gets to the time that the tv highlights come out of about week later our family watches it together. About halfway through the coverage when they're getting to the crux of the race my dad blurts out some comments about say, "oh Gomez (who is already in the lead) has a flyer of a run." Now, unless you have something wrong with you I would say that common logic brings you to the conclusion that Gomez is going to win the race.

Spoilers. Sore subject. When I was 4 I was obsessed with star wars, although I hadn't finished watching the movies. I managed to watch halfway through the last one before going to bed one night but at kindergarten the next day one of my friends was talking about star wars. He said "the way Darth Vader turns good and kills the emperor is totally unrealistic.

I do watch movie trailers although sometimes they spoil too much.

Spoylaz-Jorje

Spoilers. Mm, Hard topic. I don't usually care about them unless it is one like a character's death or another influential occurrence. Sporting events are not usually a problem as I often just want to know what happens. Apart from the Super bowl. I really wanted to see that and see all the amazing excitement that it builds. As it happens it was all over the news and I couldn't record a full replay as it was too long. In the replays we saw some funny bits like when Peyton manning missed the ball and one of the cameras showed the hilarious face of surprise...

Movie trailers are no problem as long as they don't ruin the plot (but if they are like the Frozen trailer and lie about what the movie is about then it is worse. What a terrible mistake going to that movie. At least some of the music was good!) but I digress, they are fine. I haven't been trying hard to avoid a spoiler but my heart goes out to you who do.

Spoilers - Henry C

Spoilers are (in my opinion) a current let down to modern society. In the age we live in with my sky and the ability to be able to record movies and sporting events spoilers have really come into the picture. Back when there was no such thing as tape spoilers didn't really exist but now when you can tape they are a big part of modern society and if it doesn't stop then it could be a very big problem in future.

Spoilers Hugh

I get extremly annoyed at people who spoil rugby games (Harry, Henry and Ben - Repeat offenders) and especially when its a overnight All Black game it really gets on my nerves. The only time I would spoil a game to someone would be to get revenge on a certain person (Harry, Henry and Ben) because they would of been mean to me (as a joke) or spoiled a game I wanted to watch!

I would never read the end of a book, and even if I did, they don't always spoil the whole book!

Spoilers-Max

Once I watched a lot of videos on a game I was going to buy and when I played it I got bored because it felt like I had played it before. In many books I was spoiled by one of my classmates (Ben is not one of them), but also spoiled books for other people sometimes (again, not Ben). In the Harry Potter series I read the last pages but now not so often. And for movie trailers, I only watch them as an advertisement or if I am really looking forward to them like The Matrix. I don't think that I've ever really tried to avoid spoilers, but my friend George Parker tried really hard to avoid South Park: The Stick Of Truth spoilers.

Spoilers-Harry W

When my Dad and I haven't seen a big test match because we were busy with other activities, we shut of all the radios and tvs and we don't read the paper as we don't want to know. We would be very lucky to not hear about it but I don't really mind a spoiler but my Dad goes ape if someone tells him. I love being a spoiler as sometimes I just can't hold it in for any longer and I really desperately need to tell someone. I am not very popular with my friends in those times as you can imagine. I do not like to read the last page of any book but if someone in the book is in a life or death situation I flick through to near the end of the book to see if they are still alive. I am not particularly fussed about spoilers and I don't really mind.

Spoilers - William

It comes quite often for me, having a book, movie or sporting event 'spoiled' for me. I get very annoyed at this as I have kept a surprise for myself and someone may spoil it for me.

Usually on X Factor we miss one so we record it for afterwards and a friend comes and says something along the lines of "Oh I was so annoyed that so and so went home" or something like that. I really do not enjoy being spoiled.

But on the other hand, I did not realise a person hadn't seen or read something so I do the same to them. Obviously, they aren't too happy either but we get along in the end of course.

Overall, we all make mistakes. Especially in this category. Most of the time I try not to spoil it for people but sometimes I let it go. I guess we all do this at various times don't we?

Spoilers - Nadler

I always get annoyed when someone tells me what has happened before I get to the thing I want to find out. Etc: I follow the English Premier Legue team Aresnal, and I always check the highlights after the game. And you have to see the score before you can watch the highlights and it ruins it. I don't really think I have let any spoilers escape in the last two hours... But then there is stuff I don't follow and that is fine when someone tells me. Like there is a Youtube channel that I am subscirbed to that points out everythibg wrong with that movie, and since I won't probably see that movie, it is ok.

Spoilers- Jesse

I personally don't mind spoilers so much, but for me it really depends on the book/movie. I occasionally read the ending of the book, I do that less these days. As for accidentally giving people spoilers, I'm generally not very good at withholding information. More than once I have let the cat out of the bag to family members about our favourite TV show, Sherlock. I don't really care about most sporting events, we don't have any of the Sport Channels on our TV, so I wouldn't mind if someone spoiled a really crucial game between Arsenal and Tottenham, because I probably wouldn't get to watch it anyway.

I love watching movie trailers, I don't think I've been to a movie in the last three years  where I haven't first seen the trailer. A trailer can tell you a lot about a movie, so I think it's very important for a movie-making company to put lots of money and effort into getting a trailer just right, the music is especially important in my opinion. The ideal trailer would be something like the Catching Fire* trailer, where it tells you just enough to pique your interest, but it tells you little enough to still make you want to see the movie.

*Spoiler Alert: Something happens to someone in Mockingjay.

Spoilers - Mr T

Good morning boys.  Yesterday my daughter came home from school unhappy that someone had unleashed the plot and outcome of the third book in a new series which has absolutely captured her (The Divergent series by Veronica Roth).  This got me thinking about spoilers in general, whether it be a book, a movie, a sporting event etc.  I know I have have starved myself of information for certain things (mostly sporting events if truth be told) and have been accidentally 'put in the picture' by someone.  I have also (almost) let the cat out of the bag for an acquaintance who, being a true NBA basketball fan, a US citizen, and someone who was 'saving' a crucial match in a play-off for later after watching their own daughter's sports match (priorities, priorities...), was setting himself up for an 'unspoiled' match.  I probably would have been skinned alive!  Have you ever had a spoiler for a book, movie, sporting event or similar?  Have you ever 'spoiled'? Do you ever read the last page of a novel?  Do you watch movie trailers? To what lengths have you ever tried to avoid a spoiler?
