Scince... Fayre??? - Ned

Science fair is not fair because I DID NOT GET 500 DOLLARS FOR THAT ONE PRIZE! THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED, I TELL YOU. RIIIIIIGGED!

but it actually is fair

Science fair was pretty important to the school year. Our project hasn't been judged yet, so I want to see how it turns out. I'd also like to see the other projects as well.

A science fair that caught my eye was probably Catapults by Matt and Luke because it was about flinging things with a giant mechanism, which I'm sure is every kid's goal in life. I also thought the presentation of it was done really well.

 If I were to rate my project out of 10, I'd probably rate it a solid 8, because it was a bit late but otherwise was a good topic. I think we did pretty well on our science fair project.

ok now I am going

vaminous

Science = Fair?

My science fair was a success in my opinion, but that's not to say I enjoyed it. The actual building of the catapult was fun, and the firing too, but the actual science behind it, the writing of documents, and the recording and graphing of results was boring. I, for these reasons.would give the science fair a rating of 4/10.

skiensse fair with churros and stuff- hugooooo

I have really enjoyed the science fair this year and I think it has been going very very well so far. I have completed my science fair board without getting very bored.This year I thik that I have been more organised than I was last year. I think that Tom was a very good choice for a science fair partner and he definitely didn't just game for the whole time. Overall it has been going very well and i cannot wait to be judged.

Science... fair?- Angus

I think science fair is very 'fair'. For me in my school year science fair is actually quite important.  Choosing the right partner is crucial. I think that I chose well. I really liked being able to work well with one of my friends. To start with I thought that this method would be very effective but after testing I realised that it wasn't effective after all. The crane science fair caught my attention the most. The main things I would change would be: Time managing and doing things earlier, spend more time on making it look better and have the air blowing up the windscreen. I think we would get a 7. Why? Because although we did a reasonable job on the actual work part we could have spent more time on decorating and making it more appealing. For the last part we did not do good time management.

Is Science Fair fair?

Science Fair this year through in an interesting twist for me. In my priority list out of 1 to 10 I rate it a 6/10 because I also needed to get my green light. To be honest for me it was just a sashweight of birdshot. If I was going to change something I would probably start my experimenting faster meaning that I would have more time. Overall I think I completed a good science fair before the deadline.

Science Afair- Not fair

My Science Fair, to be honest, wasn't that important to me in my school year. But I did enjoy one thing; getting to do the testing. I thought having a partner would be easier as he would do the written work and I would do the testing and making if the boats. Science Fair for me didn't really give me a ding in my mind purely because I just didn't  like the time it had taken to do it. If I were to rate my Science Fair it would be an 8/10 because I like the way it is set out. I think I could have maybe done better but I don't know how.

SOOICNE

Smiley face

Science fair is fair, I don't find it very important even though it is. To rate my science fair 7/10. Quite frankly my time management was <img src="smiley.gif" alt="Smiley rubbish" width="42" height="42">
Rubbish not smiley. Science fair gave me 3 tonnes of scrap car around my neck. I couldn't sleep with it. My timekeeping was horrible. I was way outside my deadline.

Science Fair, is it fair? Tom A

I am doing my Science Fair this year with William Chandler and it is on coffe cups. We are nearly finished and just need to Blue Tack the writing on.  I think we have done better than I have in previous years. I think it is fair and is a very useful thing to do in the school year. I think that we did a good job and give us 7.5/10.

SCIENCE FAIR ~ FAIR OR UNFAIR

In my opinion science fair wasn't really much of a big part of this term but still took up a decent amount of time to do. In my opinion I did not chose a very good partner and should have gone solo or with someone else I mainly think this because he did do a good amount of work but the quality of it was  not he best also the models he made were uneven and pretty bad. But alas I think we still did pretty well with our project on hydrodynamics. I would rate it a 6.8/10.

Is Science Fair Fair?-The Almighty GRAY

Is Science Fair Fair? I think so. If you haven't done it or you don't think it is the best it could be, well you really need to spend some more time doing it. it is exactly like your green light. If you haven't done yours you really need to spend some more time doing it. You have had 1.9 terms. you should have done it! It adds a lot of spring in my step and it was fun. i thought judds one was pretty good. nice prop. i wouldn't really change anything. i wound rate our 10/10. we worked really hard on it and i think it is really good and i am very happy with it.

Science fair Fair - Or is it dun dun dun

I really enjoyed my Science fair as I like science.
I enjoyed the testing as it was fun making the bridges and watching them slowly break and be squashed. I decided to stay solo so I would have better focus as I could possibly see myself slacking off the have fun with them while I was meant to be working. I did not learn much as I mostly knew what my subject was about. I think Science fair Krishin's one as I thought the opposite of his idea which was Do video games cause aggression. I would rate my Science fair 9/11 because it was great.

BY JAKE BRESLIN

Science...Fair? - Noah L

I think that doing a science fair is fair. I mean we get to chose what we want to do ours on, and is similar to a tiny independent study. My favourite part of doing science fair this year was making the touch circuit we used for testing. I think that I got a good partner and that me and Anish worked well together. The other science fair projects that I liked in our class were: Judd's on ski wax, and Krishin's on gaming. I would rate me and Anish's science fair project probably about a 7/10 because I think that we did ours quite well but we could have done it a bit better.

Science... Fair? - Atharva

I'm not very into science altogether, so when Science Fair came along, I wasn't very excited. I think the project was a 'sashweight of birdshot' around my neck. If I were to rate my project out of ten, it would be a 7.99999'/10. But on the good side, I was happy to do my Science Fair on a concept, instead of a 'testing and conclusion'.

Science...Fair? - Tom B

Science Fair isn't very important in my year, I would prefer not to do it actually. One of the main problems is that it gets in the way of doing other work e.g independent study. My favorite part of Science Fair this year was most defiantly finishing it! If you wanted me to say what my Favorite part of actually working on the Science Fair, it was probably testing our "Aid Drops". The reason for this is because we put eggs in DIY containers that took about ten minutes to make, what's not to love? When I finished my Science Fair I had a big spring in my step. If you mean how did I feel when I was assigned this task the answer is different. I most definitely had sash weight of of bird shot around my neck. It felt like I had been popped and I was slowly deflating... Judd's Science Fair most definitely caught my eye, I mean when I saw it down in the science room with all of the other Science Fair boards he had a massive wooden thing with a ski attached to it and he also had some other things that looked technical.

Science...Fair- Judd

The thing that I enjoyed most about finishing my science fair would be standing back and looking at the work that I had done and being happy with what I had achieved. My rating would be about a 7.5/10 because I though that the writing was of a good standard, the testing and idea behind it was something that I was interested in and I think that it was finished well. I "faired" pretty well with keeping deadlines because I kept ahead of the work I had to do the whole way through the process. I think that it is important choosing the right partner because the work load might be one sided and that  you might not agree on the idea, so I decided to go by myself. If I was able to have another crack I would change sliding ice down the ski and instead I would actually ski with the wax (but that would be much harder to test).

Science...Fair?-Mr T

It was very important to me because It took up a whole term so I would like to thing that I used this term well. The part that I enjoyed the most was finishing the science fair. I like doing this sort of things solo because it means that you don't have to rely on anyone and can work at your own pace. The science fair that caught my eye the most was Lucca's because it actually could impact people's life's. If I was to do my science fair again I would make my test area bigger and test more tracks. I would rate mine a 7/10 because it was really fun and I learnt a lot.

Science Fair-Lucca

Science Fair was fun but annoying. I really didn't enjoy getting up early for three weeks and being at the bus stop at 7:30am. But after the testing I felt that my Science Fair was progressing way faster and that I would finish easily on time which I ended up doing. I don't think it's that important in our school year depending on what you want to do when you grow up. So I think Science Fair should be optional, so should CC (Cross-Country), Speech and Swimming Sports etc. Although they all probably have a logical reason behind them I still think they should be optional. I think it's better to work solo so you don't have to rely on anyone to get the work done unless your partner is a really efficient worker. Overall I think Science Fair was an average experience.

Science Fair-JAMES

I am very pleased with my science fair. We discovered that a lot of layers prevents sound from travelling. in the future I would make my partner (who shall remain nameless cough cough Archie) do more work as I found myself with a lot of work while he had not much. Overall it was a fun experience which I would recommend to any one willing to learn.

Science... Fair? - Anish

Noah and I were great together and we both did exactly half of our science fair. We finished well before others, but I think we could have done a bit better with our writing, saying we could make it more detailed. The science fair I thought was really good for both his detailed writing and his display, but I think all of them were really detailed as well. I think I would my science fair an eight out of ten.

Science Fair-is it fair

I have benefited from doing science fair in lots of ways I have learnt that staying solo is much easier than having a partner and I have improved my understanding of centres of gravity. I have really enjoyed my last science fair at Wellesley college and I think that I have put my best foot forward.

Science... Fair?_Archiec

My favourite thing about science fair was probably doing the testing because it was fun and we learnt a lot. I think that is very important to get the right partner because you are stuck with them for the whole thing and they may not do much work. The most eye catching science fair was probably Judd's because it had a good amount of pictures and graphs. We didn't do so well with the deadline so I would probably only give our science fair a 7/10.

Science... Fair? - Matt

The thing that I enjoyed most about science fair was being able to work on a project with a friend and then see a great result once it was completed. It was quite important to get the right partner, as I had to find the right balance between somebody who I would enjoy working with but also somebody who would be able to focus and work. If we were to change anything we would have designed our catapult better as there were a number of obvious drawbacks with it's design, one of these drawbacks being how difficult and time consuming it is to change the release angle of the catapult. I think that we did quite well keeping up with deadlines as we (just) got our science fair in on time. I would give our science fair an 8 out of ten because I think that it turned out quite well.

Science... Fair? - William

Tom and I will have our science fair handed in in 5 minutes!! I think that I am going to greatly enjoy that feeling. I learnt a lot about how porcelain, glass and different types of plastic are made as I have ventured out on the journey that Scuence Fair is. At times I think that Science Fair has given me a sashweight of birdshot around my neck, but mostly it has given my a spring in my step. I would rate my exhibit 7.5/10 as there are some good points in it but probably needs just a little bit more.

Science... Fair? - Mr T

Good afternoon boys.  Science Fair...is it fair?  How important is it in your school year?  What did you enjoy the most when completing it this year?  How important was it to get the right partner (or...stay solo...)?  What value did you add to your scientific understanding of the world?  Does the science fair give you a 'spring in your step' or a 'sashweight of birdshot' around your neck (just like George Bergeron)?  Which other science fair (within the class) caught your eye the most?  What would be three main 'things to change' if you were able to have another crack (with the same topic)? If you were to give your own exhibit a rating out of 10 what would it be and why?  How did you fare with timekeeping and keeping deadlines?

Genecide = Favourite Sport

I rate this book an 11/10 for being a book and 9/10 for being a good book. The charachter that left the mark the most is Pericles because he went from being a friend to killing Anaximander. I thoughrely enjoyed listening to Genesis because Bernard Beckett has a way of writing a book that hooks people in and can enjoy it. I would recommend this read.

Genesis = Genius? - Atharva

I rate this book an 8/10. Pericles left the biggest mark for me, because he killed Anaximander for being a mutant. I do see a lost chapter (possibly a Genesis 2), because, in short words, the rules have been laid down: mutants are unwanted and will be killed if found. Maybe a sci-fi sequel movie that looks something like Star Wars would be quite good.

Genesis=Genius Gray

Rating: 7/10
 The character which left it's mark on me was Adam. as (mostly) he was the main character i had a big impact on the story and i think he shaped the future after him a lot and was a generally interesting character. my three questions are:
1. why did you chose art to be an orangutan?
2. why did you make it that humans die?
3.what would you change if you wrote the book again?
i don't really think that there should be a lost chapter or a  movie. it is complete now.
top class books
1. Animal Farm
2. Private peaceful
3. TCIOTDITN-T
4. Genesis

Genesis=Genius?_Archiec

I would rate Genesis at about a eight out of ten because it was thought provoking and it gave you enough so you didn't get bored but didn't give the game away until the very last chapter. Adam was my favorite character because he is like us and has a lot of trust in a machine which can easily change its mind or crash when you need it the most. This book probably wouldn't be a very good movie because it would give away the fact that they are Orangutan and that they are like Art in many ways. My favorite books this term have been 1. Animal Farm, 2. Genesis, TCIOTDITNT, 4. Private Peaceful. Yes, Genesis=Genius

Genesis = Genius? - Matt

I think that this book was quite good so I would give it a good rating. The questions that I would ask Bernard Beckett would be:

1. Did the story finish in the way that you expected it to when you started writing it?

2. What compelled you to write a book about robotic apes?

3. Has the success of this book made you consider writing another book?

I would put the books in this order:
1st: Genesis

2nd: Animal Farm

3rd: The curious incident of the dog in the night-time

4th: Private peaceful

Genesis OR Genocide? - The Pope of SZK Jake Breslin AHTAMSZK

Genesis Or Genius?

I loved reading Genesis as it was very thought provoking. This book was a 9.7 out of 10 in my opinion, as it really makes assume things that are not true be constantly trying to throw you of the trail by throwing story changing points at you constantly. I think ART was my favourite character as he was a smart talking robot who would never back down to a test of intelligence to prove he is superior.
If I had to ask Bernard Becket is three question they would be, Is there possibility for a Genesis 2 ? What influenced you decision to make the final dilemma so story flipping and Did you have any inspiration for the story.
I could see a lost chapter as a prequel about the great war and the take over of humans. I think this has potential as a movie if done right by a good directer as it would be very easy to make it boring.

These are my rankings for the books we have read in class this year.

1. Animal Farm
2. Genesis
3. Private Peaceful
3 =. TCIODTDINTNT

By Jake Breslin - The Pope of SuppleZombieKitteninsim

Genesis= Genius- Judd

The character that left its mark on me the most was Aneximander because of the way that in the end she just suddenly died and the book finished. If I could ask Bernard Beckett three questions they would be: why did you chose for the people to be Orangutans?, how did you imagine all of the story line? and why did it not have a happy ending? If there was a lost chapter I would see it panning out when the examiners continue the beggining of a new "examination" but instead of finding the mutant it would slip under the radar and tell the rest of the country about what really happened to Adam and Art. I think this would have very good potential for a movie because of the fact that they were Orangutans and the way that the book was written, although the story line would change because they wouldn't be able to hold the fact that everyone was Orangutans until the end. I would say that this was the best book we have read so far even though sci-fi usually is not my thing.

G+E+N+E+S+I+S=G+E+N+I+U+S=H+U+G+O

I really loved this book, it was so very spindifferously good. The twist at the end was 11/10 and oh, the plot line was simply amazing. Some people would also call it transcendent. Art making Adam think he was his Fidus Achates, was so very tactical. Such great writing. I found no blunders in this book that left some of us Cachinnating. It had some baffling plot twists including the desultory plot twist where we found out that Anaximander was actually a Orang, a robot with a monkey face. This book was written by a assiduous writer who should really have penned more books. This book had gobs of plot twists and was generally really well written. This was a sterling, tip-top, top notch novel. 11/10

Genisis=Genocide

I wood rate Genesis 9/10. It is a great book and Bernard Beckett has incredible originality. If I were to ask Bernard Beckett three questions about Genissis they would be: why do the examiners spend so much time training there students when they except no new members to the academy, why did you decide to make Anaximander die and if you were to write a sequel to this story what would happen? I have really enjoyed this book and I loved the twist at the end!

Genesis=Genius? - Felix R-M

I would rate this book 9/10. Anaximander s the one that left there mark on the book the most, because of her smart thinking and how she was killed/shut down at the end. If I was to ask Bernard Beckett three questions they would be why the names Adam and Art? Did any famous books influence you? How did you think up that ending twist. It would be my third favourite book,if I had to put them in order it would be, 1. Animal farm. 2. TCIOTDITN-T. 3. Genesis. 4. Private Peaceful. I think it would be very good movie, if I was the director I would show shadows of Anaximander and the examiners until the very end.

Genesis-Lucca

I would rate this book a 10/10 because of all the action, adventure and humour. I like how it is set in the future or else the book would seem really strange. I really enjoyed the bit especially when Adam had a giant and funny argument with Art. First of all I would ask Bernard Beckett why did you choose orangutans for the animals, why not tigers or wolves? I would also ask him why he set the story out with robots and all of that stuff? I think a final chapter would sum up what happened with Art because apparently Adam's identity went into Art. I would love to see a Genesis movie come out because the book really intrigued me and making a movie for it would just be like putting the icing on the cake. I'm not sure about my title page yet but I know I will definitely change the name of the book. I think that they were all great books but in order it probably went like this. 1. TCIOTDITNT 2.  Animal Farm and Genesis 3. Private Peacful. Over all I really enjoyed Genesis and I see why Mr Tait really enjoys it aswell.

Genesis=Genius? - Tom B

I would rate this book a very good 9.5 out of ten. I think that Adam left the biggest mark on me. I think this is because he was betrayed by Art and he then asked Art to kill him. If I could ask Bernard Beckett three questions about Genesis they would be: How an earth did you come up with it? How long did it take to write? Did you come up with ideas as you were writing the story or did you have it all lay out in your head? I think that you could make a movie out of Genesis, I have no idea how you would make it though. My favorite book this year has been TQIOTDITN-T, then Genesis, then Animal Farm and then finally Private Peaceful.

Genesis = genius - Noah L

I would rate Genesis 9/10. I really enjoyed reading it in class. My favourite character was Art. I think that doing a lost chapter on Genesis would have been cool.  Think that Genesis could easily become a great movie because of how interesting the book was and all of the plot twists. Here is my ranking for the 4 books we've read in class so far: 1. Genesis 2. TCIOTDITN-T 3. Animal Farm 4. Private peaceful.

Genesis = Genius? - Mr T

Good morning boys.  Genesis now complete.  How would you rate this book?  Which character left its mark on you the most?  If you could ask author, Bernard Beckett, three questions about the story (or the writing of the story), what would they be?  How would you see a 'Lost Chapter' (a la Animal Farm last week) panning out?  Do you think this book has potential as a movie?  Why?  How would you shoot it if you were director? What sort of ideas do you having percolating for your alternative title page (a task next week)?  Rate (in order of most enjoyable class shared reading) our first four novels to date.

Green Lights - GO GO GO Jake Breslin

Independent Study

I feel very good were I am at as I think I am staying up with the crowd. My Biggest resource would probably be all the WIKI pages on Japan as there are endless amounts of information. I'm very very close to finishing my big six all that is left to do is finalise my title page.
Probably the biggest change in direction would be in week three when I completely changed my topic from The Differences Between Japan And The Western World to Why Is Japan So Unique.

Go Go Green Light_Archiec

We are almost halfway through the year and I am very glad that I have got my green light because then it is easier to do a task on a rainy weekend with you green light. I have found out quite a bit about my topic, did you know that Stalin was only 163cm tall? I hope I don't go down the same track as last year because I ended up having a massive rush at the end and missing key bits of information. I hope I get a good mark preferably high eighty's plus.

Groon Loots Moon Goo Goo Goo - Luke

My green light has yet to find me,
It has so far defied me,
So far to go, no way i'll get there,
I really need this out of my hair,

after that nice piece of poetry, I will say that I have changed my topic three times. and that I am not working too hard, and haven't gotten too far.

Grern lerts Ger Ger Ger- BIGBOYFINBAR

I received my green light Wednesday last week and I am already starting to work on my title page and intro. I think I will have finished my big six within the next 3 weeks.  Within getting my green light my thoughts on my topic has changed a lot from thinking of my presentation being about game play and rules to history and changes.

THE BIG GREEN LIGHT_BEN

I am slightly behind for independent study but am, working should have my green light by the end of week 7.
The most useful resource for me is THE GREAT WIKIPEDIA!!! I have made my title page and am
close-ish to finishing my big six. I have gone back to my Popplet about 10 times to change my questions and I have no idea what my booklet will look like but I think it will look AWESOME!!!

Green lights-K cOX

I feel like i am in a garbage compactor that I can't escape from, I feel about 3 kilometres behind driving a reversing Ford Fiesta with a smashed clutch assembly. My main resource is the book Monuments Men. Which is about as useful as a three tons of water in a desert. My changes in direction are equivalent to a large haulage truck with its steering wheel taped straight. I cannot visualise my booklet.

Green lights and ham by Dr. Suess - Ned

I have a green light, yes of course I have my light.
The only people to not have one will surely be in fright.

On the subject of my very biggest six,
I'd say I'm quite close, but mostly in the mix.
Because I have only 5 done, my title page and more,
But with the introduction, why, I'm not close like before.

"What about my presentation?" I hear you ask quite loudly.
Very simple and understandable, it's going quite profoundly.

My booklet is pretty well, I have a lot of pages.
But as the year goes on, I tend to have more rages.

I think I'll put my booklet in the best colour, that's Orange.
And when I'm finished with it, I'll be very...

Green Lights mean Go Go Go - William

I am reasonably comfortable with where I am, and I think that I will finish my Independent Study this year without a mad rush at the end. If you are comparing the year to a marathon race I would rate where I am as midway through the pack, conserving my energy to kick on in the second half of the race and a big finish. I have several good resources at the moment and I will spend many hours sucking them dry of all their information, gleaning as much as I came from them. I have nearly finished my big six, I just need to fine tune. I have a dream... That I will produce a spiffingly good booklet and presentation. By using my time well I will hopefully successfully juggle my Independent Study, Science Fair, Production and all the day to day happenings of 7/8T. I will try and keep my Independent Study ticking over, and complete small bits of work, making small progress every day, because that is what makes something big.

Green lights mean more crashes! - TimTam

I am now in my second term and my independent study is coming along well. Mr Tait asked me how comfortable I was and I said I was happy with where I was. I am glad that I'm not stressed about the writing because it is (apparently) very easy. I have done a lot of research already and I think I am going to have a good mark (I hope). My topic is a very big topic so there is a lot of information I can soak up. I am very interested in my topic and I'm glad I'm not changing it in term 3.

GREEN LIGHTS-GRAYH

I have my green light i feel pretty comfortable about where i am. I have finished my title page and am working on the actual writing. Generally (i hope everyone else is doing this) i am trying to find as much info as possible. For the BIG SIX i have to do my introduction. The only change i have really made was changing the topic in Term 1. And so generally i think i am doing well in my independent study and i am glad that i have chosen this topic.

Mean lights go go go

Green lights go go go-Patrice

I have managed to get my green light and I am very happy with how my progress is going this year on my Independant study. I have changed from making a Model to panting a picture of one of the sevens in H.G. Wells book The time machine. To keep myself on top of things I am going to keep more organised than ever and plan a lot. I am really looking forward to finishing science fair. By Pat G

Green Lights Mean Go Go Go- Judd

I am comfortable with where I am at but I know that I need to get going with the work in order to keep Moving ahead in my work otherwise it will become stressful. I have finalised my big six although  I think I will improve and extend my introduction in order for at the end of the year when I need to hook the readers in. I have already made many changes to my study and my S.O.L.O. Adding tasks and taking tasks away because they were not relevant. I think that in order to juggle school work and after school activities you need to set a goal for what you are going to get done each week in order to stay a head and to keep advancing. At The need of the year a mark is important to me but even if there was not a mark a I would not be too worried.

Green lights mean go go go - Atharva

With my Independent Study, I feel very comfortable with where I am now. I have done a few fact files and a few pages on some of the different inventions that were made in the Industrial Revolution. One very helpful website for me is HISTORY.com. It has a huge amount of information about the I.R. I only have to complete my title page to have my big six completed. My topic hasn't shifted a single millimeter in any direction. I had thought of my topic and the very end of year 7, and the second I thought of the I.R., it 'clicked'.

Green Lightz - The Lean Green Light Making Machine (HUgo)

I got my green light in about week 5-7 in term 1 so I'm not very worried about being behind, to all of you people who have only just got your green lights:  WORK THROUGH WET MORNING TEAS AND LUNCHES. I know that you are probably not but believe me a whole hour helps. I am really looking forward to presenting my Independent Study to the class because it is actually really fun. I am really enjoying this year and seeing as I have pretty much done my big six and have 20 odd pages in my booklet I think that I am sitting rather comfortably.

My Motto For IS Is:

In order to succeed, you cannot game.

-Hugo Lethbridge

Green Lights Mean Go, Go, Go - Matt

I feel mostly comfortable with where I am at with my independent study. I have done 4 parts of my big six and  am about to finish my introduction, I plan to complete my work by not getting off topic.

Green Lights mean go, go, go-Tom A

Of my Big Six my four green light pieces are complete and my title page draft is in the box. I've handed in my first draft of my introduction, but are still a little way off. For Science Fair, William and I have done the first part of our testing and should be finished with plenty of time. I haven't given much thought to the senior production but as it is in Term Three there will be less pressure for it. My main problem with my Independent Study last year was that I slacked of towards the middle of the year in Term's Two and Three. Hopefully that won't happen this year.

Green Light Means go go go-Felix R-M

I am feeling very comfortable at were I am at now. I have three books on the Inklings that I am gaining information from. I am very close to finishing my 'big six' I just need to finish off my title page and I am done. I want to get a really good mark on my independent study.

I feel like I am just ahead which is where I want to be. I've practically finished my big six I just need to get my intro checked and I've started up on some of the tasks that I have set myself. I want my booklet at the very least 50 odd so pages and I'm going to try get as much stuff done as possible this year. I will probably end up doing some work over the holiday and at home depending on where I'm at but I probably won't end up doing it in the holidays because it's the holidays. I am starting to learn a lot about the Treaty of Waitangi but not just that I'm also learning lots of other info to do with the Moari and the English and all the different tribes etc. I am really enjoying this topic, I think that it kind of sounds dull when you say "The Treaty of Waitangi" but it's actually really interesting. I just get my work done earlier in the week so I can relax and have some Independent Study time at the end of the week. I want to get a good mark but what I'm really aiming for is to get 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Overall I am really enjoying it.

Green lights mean go go go-James

Wow. We are almost halfway through the year! I am lucky because I managed to get my green light early on in the year. Since then I have been plowing their my topic. I have found out a lot about Mahatma Gandhi. Did you know that his favorite food was avocado and coconut curry? Did you know he was married at the age of 13?

Last year I had a major last minute panic because I slacked off in the middle of the year. This year I am not going to do that. I will try not to game or be off-task. That's how I am not going to be stressed at the end of the year.

Green lights mean go go go - Tom B

At the moment I feel pretty comfortable about how much work I have done on my booklet. I am reasonably close to getting my big six done. I have got my green light and have finished my first draft for both my title page and my introduction. So far I haven't made any changes to the way that my independent study is going. The way that I am going to "juggle" all of my activities is to have homework nights at home after school and also do as much as possible at school.

Green lights mean go go go - Mr T

Good morning boys.  Most of you have received your 'green lights' (and those few who have not are very, very close).  With the real work now unfolding in front of you, how comfortable do you feel with where you are at?  What resources are you currently absorbing like a sponge?  How close are you to finalising your 'big six'?  What changes have you made already with the direction of your Independent Study?  What is your vision for your booket?  Your presentation?  How do you think you will successfully juggle your home commitments and also keep momentum going as Science fair and Production take a fair chunk of your class time?  What is one really interesting thing that you have found out already with your topic?  How will you plan to complete your work and keep up (and avoid a last minute panic)? How important is an explicit mark (and associated assessment)?

The Plower of Tractor Books - Ned

I am planning on bringing Where the Wild Things are. It was pretty good for a picture book.

Basically it's about a kid who doesn't like being bossed around. He goes up to his room and then he gets transported to a world WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE! It's got a moral, but I completely forgot what it is and I'll probably remember it once I read it again.

The artwork is really nice, and without it I don't think it would be as much as a good book.

How difficult would it be to write a successful picture book? Pretty difficult. You would probabaly have to be

a) original

b) moralistic

c) good at art

d) easy, simplistic words but enough to mean something

those are my reasons.

Here is an amazing picture book.

The power of Picture books - The Maker of Good Tasty Stew (Hugo)

My actual book, (Puff the Magic Dragon was just a fake) is Nicketty-Nacketty noo-noo-noo. It is written by Joy Cowley. This book was a great book and it was read to me so many times that my mother had memorised it. I bought it in because it was simply The Book. The Key to a good book is good art. Good art catches the eye and you buy it, then you read it. It was a great book that was fun and was very catchy and memorable.

The power of the picture book - Felix R-M

I brought The Little Yellow Digger and The Little Yellow Digger at the Zoo. I chose them because every night I would ask my parents to read the book and if they didn't, I would throw a massive tantrum and because I got The Little Yellow Digger on my first birthday.  One memory that gets triggered for me is that my younger sister took the book out of my bedroom and started to suck on the corner of  the book. Being three and loving the book, I felt betrayed that my one year old sister was doing that so I ran over pushed her over grabbed the book and ran away.

I brought two books the Duck and The Gun and Arabian Nights. The reason I brought arabian nights is because my grandfather used to read me stories from it for 40 minutes every day.  I think it would be very hard to write a good picture book since there are so many good books out there all ready. So A really good book is now really rare because all the other ones are now known so well.

The Power Of Picture Books (is not enough to charge the Death Star.)

The book that I brought was called: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. The reason I brought this book is because It was given to me as a present and I had always wanted another book written by Dr. Seuss. The memories it triggers is the memory of the other beloved Dr. Seuss books that my dad read to me most nights when I was younger. I think that pictures make a successful PICTURE book purely because little children love looking at animated pictures. The importance of picture books to me is very great so I would recommend reading them a lot more.

The power of picture books by the maker of the universe-Gray

My picture book was Richard  Scarry's Great big air book. I liked this book as a young one because it was one of the books which i could read all on my own. It was also a pretty good book as there was many stories inside the story, the artwork is very good and it is never boring. the artwork on this book is very good because it is eye catching, colorful and generally realistic. A genius picture book is one which combines good artwork, great writing and is easy to read. All in all, picture books are very important as they teach you to read which as we all known is very important.
Gray's top three picture books
1. the great air book (the one i bought)
2. where is green sheep?
3. the gruffalo

Did You Know The Nuclear Power of Picture Books can Destroy Cities

The book i'm going to bring in is the Sneeches by Dr Suess. The reason I'm bringing in this book is because it was one of my childhood favorites also, reading through it again I really think it's quite clever and entertaining.

The Power of Picture Books - Matt

The book that I brought in is a book about tractors that I used to read quite often when I was younger. I think that there is absolutely no formula for making a successful picture book, you just have to get lucky. It would be very easy to write a successful picture book, you would just have to be VERY lucky.

The Power of Picture Books - Noah

I didn't bring in a picture book but I do have a couple that i remember reading, or being read to, when I was younger. One of the books was Richard Scarry's Cars, Trucks and things that go. I remember thinking that it was awesome because of all the cars and the tiny Golden Bug on each page. I think that the artwork in a picture book is very important because, after all it's called a "picture book". I think that it would be quite hard to write a successful picture book because you would have to use very simple words and it needs to make sense to the younger audience it is mainly written for.

The power of picture books-Tom A

The books that I brought in are, If I Ran The Circus and If I Ran The Zoo by Dr Suess. I think that to write a picture book would be easier than a novel but would still be hard. A novel is longer and will take more effort but you only need an idea, whereas with a picture book you need a idea and also a good illustrator.

The Power of Picture Books - William

I brought in the picture book "The Sneetches", a wonderful book by Dr. Seuss that highlights the importance of living in an equal society. When I read it countless times in my youth I did not pick up any of these messages though but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and my joy that this truly great picture book gave me never diminished. For me it triggers memories from my early childhood, and my nanny Barbara reading it to me. The absolutely sensational drawings from the one and only Theodor Seuss Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss) is second to none and brings the book to life in a way we can only dream of doing. Every aspect of The Sneetches is sheer genius from the colourful language to the startingly good illustrations to the stark reminders about the dangers of living in a divided society. I would say that I would struggle to write a picture book, as I lack the ability to craft something like that.

The Power of Picture Books-Judd

The book that I brought was Berty was a Watch Dog. I brought it in because it was my favourite book when it got read to me and it was really funny. I think to make a successful picture book it either has to be funny and short, have a good meaning and moral or just rhyme. I think that the artwork is the most important thing in the book because usually a picture book is read to you when you can't read so you look at the pictures. I think that it would be relatively easy to write a picture book but some parts  of it would be hard because you need to have a problem in the book that is sad but if it's to sad otherwise the book isn't liked by the children. My top three picture books would be Berty was a Watch Dog, Peter the Pirate, Giraffes can't Dance and coming at fourth is The Gruffalo, because they were all funny had a good problem in them that was always fixed with a good solution and happy ending.

The Power of Picture Books - Anish

The picture book I chose was We're Going on a Bear Hunt. I chose this book because this was the first book I ave ever read, and I used to read it over and over again, because I loved it. Te ting that made me love it was the funny words that made me laugh. Overall it was my best babyhood book that I will never forget.

The two picture books that I brought to class were Dr Seuss's The pants with nobody inside them and Stan and Jan Berenstains The ghost of the Forest. I took these books into class to share because I used to find them a combination of scary and funny. I really enjoyed reading them when I was smal and it is still a Good laugh reading it now.

The Magical Rainbow Powers of Picture Books - Luke S

When I was young and impressionable, I was read a great deal of picture books, with the readers hoping to instill good habits and morals before I would even need those things. One of the only ones I remember being read to me was the Lorax. But I was generally rooting for the Once-ler, and wondering how he made such a profitable business just by initially chopping down a tree. This story inspired me, but I still saw flaws in his business plan. He had no plantation of trees that were cared for, so it would perpetually keep going and growing, and he had no regard for the land he was polluting. you need to keep the wildlife and such alive so they keep the trees healthy and in a good state.

The Power of Picture Books - Atharva

I brought in Mr Tanglewood and the Punga People. I go back very long for this book, and I love the rhymes in it. It makes a successful picture book because it teaches that anyone can be your friend. A certain picture book can become a classic if the artwork has a unique style and if it has been read for generations. Also, its plot has to be original and has to have a moral. The artwork is a very important for the reader, for when a young child 'reads' a book, they only really look at the pictures, while listening to whoever is reading it out. The artwork also tells a thousand words. It must be really
hard to write a successful picture book, as if you want to hook the young readers, you must think like the reader.

The Power of Picture Books_Archiec

My book is My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes and I brought in this book because it was probably my favourite book when I was about four. I think a successful picture book must have colurful but simple pictures and storyline. The artwork is probably the most important thing because that is what defines it from any other book. I would say that is very important to read picture books as a young kid because it is a fun way to learn to read. My top three picture books would probably be My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes, George and the Dragon and Fix it Duck.

The Power of Picture Books-Lucca H

I brand in the Mr series because I used to read them a lot when I was younger and I really enjoyed them. I think the Mr men picture books are great because young kids can read them by them selves and they usually have a picture every second page which is good. I think picture books are really important in a kids life because it is what starts off reading for them and that slowly progresses into bigger books that are harder to read. I don't really have a top three but I think the Mr Men series would definitely be one of the three. I don't think that I could write a successful picture book like the Mr Men series but it dose deem really easy but it definitely wouldn't be.

The power of picture books-James

My favorite picture book of all time is "I Wish I had Duck Feet" by Dr. Suess. I love all of the Doctor Suess books because they are really creative. Why I think that picture books are really God is the fact that they are so different unlike chapter books that all end in a similar way. Another one of my favs is spork. It talks about being who you are.

The Power Of Picture Books - Tom B

I brought in three picture books. Fix It Duck, Trucks and Spot Goes To School. I chose these books because I like them and they have lots of pictures in them, a key thing for a picture book. I chose to bring in Trucks because I knew that lots of people would get distracted by it wanting to feel all of the different trucks. Fix it Duck is a book that my dad read to me a lot, that is why I brought that one in. Finally Spot Goes to School is just an absolutely amazing picture book and it should be illegal if you don't own it. That is why I brought it in. I think that it we be very hard to write a successful picture book because you have to be the right sort of person to be good at it. You also need to be very patient and you need to be very clever.

The Power of Picture Books - Mr T

Good morning boys.  Over the last two weeks I have asked you to bring in a picture book that you treasure.  What did you bring in to share?  Why did you choose this book?  What particular memories does it trigger for you?  What do you think makes a successful picture book?  How does a certain picture book become a 'classic'?  How important is the artwork?  In your eyes what makes a picture book 'genius'?  How do you rate the importance of picture books being read to you in your primary years?  What would be your top three of all time?  How difficult do you think it would be to write a successful picture book?
