Lord of the Flies - William

In 7/8T we are currently in the process of reading Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. It is a superbly written book and you can feel the tension rising between characters, especially Jack and Ralph. William Golding uses whole chapters to set a scene and then ruin the vividly drawn scene by introducing a character, such as the beast. As a writer to do this is, in my opinion, a remarkable thing to do, and is a fantastic writing tool.
Jack, as a character annoys me by his constant rebelism of the process, and the agreed way to do things. He is constantly undermining Ralph (the elected chief) and causing more problems by his thirst for hunting than he is solving.
Even though Ralph is chief, if I was on the island, I would vote for Piggy, as he is a clear thinker, is smart and the only one on the island who knows any sense. Ralph respects Piggy and would be able to action Piggy's ideas.
This book is literary genius and a joy to read.
