DON'T PANIC! - JOSH

On a scale of one to ten I would say my anticipation for this movie would be about a five. Not because I don't like the book. I was just a bit disappointed with the trailer. I think since it's based in space it would be hard to keep true to the book. I really want to see Zaphod Beeblebrox because he is my favourite character. I thought the Hunger Games trilogy was improved by the movies. I would like to the read the sequels to HHGTTG but I have a lot of books that I need to read at the moment.

Don't Panic-GusM

As we have discussed before, a movie adaptation of a book is a big-ish topic to talk about, so I'll just cut to the case. You can generally judge a movie by its trailer, and HHGTTG didn't look as good a I hoped. It looks like a nineties movie, even though it was made in 2005. Look at the book Ender's Game it's movie adaptaion. But mabey they'll make a remake or a modern sequel. If they do, I can't wait to blog about it.

Don't Panic-Tom A

I am looking forward to seeing the movie of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. However my antisipation levels are only about 6 or 7. I know it is slightly contrary but I dont think that they will have kept to the book that much and will have used a fair bit of creative lisence. I am most looking foward to seeing Marvin and Slartybartfast.

Don't Panic_Archie c

My anticipation levels are kind of high and are about at a 6 1/2, This is because the  book wasn't my favourite book that we have read this year but it had funny bits so I am looking foward towards it. I, like most people are looking foward to seeing Slartybartfarst (?) because I wasn't there for the description of him so I don't know what he looks like. I think that it won't stay very true to the story because the movie was made about twentyfive years later. I am not very interested in reading the rest of the series because I didn't like the boring bits where they were talking because I kinda switched off.

Don't Panic - Andrew

I'm really looking forward to HGTTG, with a 9 on the 'anticipation scale'. I've actually already seen the movie, but it was a few years ago so I can't remember too much. I'm looking foward to seeing how they will use and convey Marvin the depressed robot, because he was probably my favourite character in the book. I'm looking foward to the part where the two missiles are going to hit the spacecraft.

Don't Panic - Luke S

The movie will hopefully be good, however, I always have low hopes when watching movies. The reason for this is so I can never be disapointed, and if it is good I will be even more pleased. The only movie that has done justice to a book is the movie adaptation of: The Colour of Magic, the first Discworld novel. The movie has better character development throughout the movie, and a better storyline.  -  this is a vogon.

DON'T BE PANICKY - Nud

hello everybody
welcome to Nud Lootins' blog extravaganza
we have this thing

My expectations on Hungry Girls to Tackle Guys Mooviy is high. I'd say a 7. No... a 7.4.
Help! Gorillas Took Two Grapes! the muvy is probably going to stay on track with its story.
My favourite character that is in Handkerchiefs Gallop to Tacos, Gurlllll,! Mouve edition is the dolphins.

Don't Panic - Jim

Having seen the movie I do not have much anticipation for it. I was looking forward to it a lot as the book is one of my all time favorites and although I don't entirely agree with some of the casting choices I think it has potential to be a good and funny movie. I think it will be hard to keep true to the book as there is a lot of space stuff and weird future things. I don't think I've ever seen a movie that is better than the book as it is hard because with a book you have no limits whereas with a movie there is only so much you can do.

Don't Panic-Anish

I can't wait for the movie to come, with eyes focused on the moving pictures. I go for a 10 for my anticipation of the movie and can't wait to see what Arthur Dent does and how he saves the world.

Don't Panic - Toby Marks

I think that, seeing as it was such a good book, the movie will have to match it. I think that it would be quite easy to follow the movie however I'm not quite sure how they will do the aliens. Will they be animated  or will makeup be used. Like everyone I want to see what Slartibartfast will look like however personally I want to see what Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz looks like. I don't think that the humour will remain the same way as it was in the book as I think that some of that humour needs to be read to you.

Don't Panic-Maxillion

I am really looking forward to watching the movie again (even though I've seen it four times) as it represents the book really well. Some of the jokes have been slightly altered but it still contains as much, if not more funniness as the book. The characters are really well done, (with Martin Freeman as Arthur) and the little animations from the HHGTTG are narrated by Stephen Fry. Martin is suitably voiced by Alan Rickman, (Severus Snape) and Zaphod is as crazy as the book version. The Vogons are extremely well done (and disgusting).

Overall, I think that no matter what, everyone in the class will enjoy at least three parts of the movie.

Don't Panic-William

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a fantastic novel, and I am looking forward to the movie with high anticipation. I think that the adaptation from book to movie will be quite hard to do, because of all the space ships and extraterrestrial activity. I am most looking forward to seeing Zaffod Beetlebrox in the movie, as he is my favourite character in the book. I have high hopes for the movie, but in my experience great novels are underdone in the adaptation to the movie, and normally the movies are terrible. I am interested in reading the sequel to HGTTG, as I loved the first book.

Don't Panic - Luke

The bad thing about watching the movie is I have a music lesson on at twelve o'clock. I'm looking ford to seeing Marvin and Trillion on the screen. I want to see the technology they used to create the robots.

Don't Panic~James

In my opinion Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy or HHGTTG was absolutely horrendous. The only good part was listening to Gus' deep throated laughter. I have such high hopes for the movie because if they stray from terrible storyline it might just become good. I am excited to seeing SLARTIBARTFAST and ZAPHOD BEETLEBROX. Besides from that the books humour was terrible half of the "jokes" I didn't get and the other half were just not funny. I would rate this book 3/10 and I would NOT recommend reading this monstrosity.

Don't Panic- Hugo

I am really looking forward to seeing the movie. My anticipation level is around 11/10. From the trailer we watched I think it is going to be good and I can't wait to see Marvin. I hope they go along with the book. I really want to read the other books and would like it if they made them into movies too.

Don't Panic - Matt

My anticipation level is about 7/10 because the book is very very good and I doubt that they will be able to match this in the movie (although I still hope) some parts of the book won't be very good in a movie so I imagine it will be a bit different. I have already read all five books and they are very good. Also I have actually seen a movie that is better than a book, a while ago when I was younger I had read the book fantastic mr fox an I wasn't particularly impressed, however when I saw the movie I decided that it was much better than the book.

Don't panic- Will

The Hitch Hikers Guide Of The Galaxy in my view was an ok book. To be fair I did miss some of it but even the parts that I did hear were ok, in a story point of view. But the comedy in the book I felt was dry and fantastic it was funny and had our whole class laughing. I do think I will enjoy the movie  thought because I think it might give me more of a visual and help me understand who the characters are relate them back to the book. One scene I am really looking forward is the scene where one of the rockets turns into a very unfortunate whale... So sad :'(.  Overall even thought I didn't enjoy the book that much I hope the movie is good because I want to be able to read the book again with more of a visual.

Don't panic toby c

Although I missed some of the book I still really enjoyed it, there were a look of laughs and some espically big ones. I am looking forward to seeing Slarttybartfast in teh movie because it will be interesting to see what they come up with.  I didn't use to be a book boy but recently I have began to love them, the book can go into a lot more depth than a movie, so I think the book will be better even though i haven't seen teh movie. In the end i have reallly enjoyed listening to thsi book and I am sure the movie will live up to my expectations.

Don't panic - Noah

My anticipation level I probably a 7 because I think it will funny although I didn't especially enjoy the book. I think the movie will be a bit different to the book. The character I want to see most is Slartibartfast. I think I will enjoy the movie more then the book. I don't think that I will read the sequels because I didn't especially enjoy the first one.

Don't Panic - Mr T

Good morning boys.  We are about to watch the movie adaptation of the book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high) what are your anticipation levels?  How do you think the movie will 'stay true' to the book?  Which character are you most interested in seeing on the screen?  What parts of the story are you expecting to 'come alive' for you because of the visual element?  How does the particular type of humour prominent in HHGTTG sit with you?  Do you have high hopes for the movie?  Are you willing it to be successful?  Have you ever read a book which was improved by a movie adaptation?  Are you interested in reading the sequels?

Business End - Atharva

I think my year so far is going really good, apart from the fact that I haven't got my green light, but mostly I'm super excited about my upcoming America trip. I think I could work a bit more... "on to things", because my work rate is on a downscale.

The business end - Andrew

I'm quite happy with how I'm going with my Independent study, although if I could change something, it would be to start my presentation sooner, because I didn't really realise that year 8's start almost at the start of term 4.   The best piece of advice I could give would be to get onto it early, but seeing as now is no longer considered 'early', it doesn't really count...
I hardly have any time with my busy schedule to get any independent study done in the week, but I do a little spare time to get some done in the weekend.

Business end- TobyC

7/8T one of the best classrooms I have been in and not just because of the teacher! We area an independent learning class, at the start of the year we pick a topic the we are interested in and from there we start to research and learn new thing about our topic. We have to create a booklet and a presentation to present to the class. This year I have chosen Department of conservation and I am really enjoying this topic.

This year I am looking foward to seeing everyone's presentation!

heading toward the business end - Matt

I Would like to present later rather than earlier to give me just a little bit more time to polish everything up (mainly because I am slightly behind in my independent study) The most interesting thing that I have found in my research is probably just some of the sheer numbers. I am looking forward to hearing Hugo's study on Nikola Tesla (because I have heard some very odd and interesting things from him on the topic) although Ned's study on the internet of things is something that I am interested in.

Heading towards the business end - Josh

Time is going fast. I am very pleased with my position in independent study yet that's no reason for me to stop. Currently I've done about 2/3's of my presentation and booklet. My best advice for independent study that I have taken is that "Term 4 is a ticking time bomb and the only way to make it stop is by making it out in time" (quote by Jesse Richardson).

The most interesting thing that I've learn't in my study is all the creative an innovative way people design public spaces. I got my green light in early term two. I've done all most all of my I.S. at home, so I'm not finding working at home a struggle at all. I can envision my independent study presentation, and I would tell you my vision but I don't want to spoil it for you. I know when I want to present but I won't tell.

Some topics I'm looking forward to are:
Jim - JFK
Ben - United Nations
Toby M - Instincts
Will S - Ned Kelly
Archie C - 1936 Berlin Olympics
Max - Communism

heading towards the businesses end - Jim

Right now I'm actually enjoying my independent study quite a bit. At the start of the term I wasn't feeling as good about it. I think that the start of term three is the hardest because you have a lot of work ahead of you but once you start knocking things of it becomes better. I have gotten a lot of good information from lots of different place like books, documentaries, movies, websites and I think that will be important in the long run. I can't wait to get my presentation going and making it look good . I think the most important thing is to keep going and get it done.

Oh boy, oh boy it's getting closer to the end of the year every day and I'm a little worried. Because in less than three months it's presenting time! And that means I have to work faster than ever. How long is my presentation going to be? How long is my booklet going to be?

I know I've already got my green light done, and I've also written a lot of pages worth of booklet. Infact, I bet this going to be even longer than my last Independent Study!
My only hope is that people like my work, and I get a placing like I did last year.

Heading towards the business end... -William

My Independent Study is chugging along quite nicely at the moment. I am happy with my position, and that from here, with some hard work I can get my Independent Study done in time, as I want to present earlier rather than later. I am looking forward to hearing about Winston Churchill and Communism, as they both are topics that quite interest me. I am really pleased with my topic choice, as I am enjoying working on it, at home and at school.

Heading towards the business end-Max

I am happy with my position in my Independent Study, and I am starting to do some work at home. The most interesting thing I have come across is that Karl Marx was obscurely related to the founder of the company Phillips. My vision for my presentation is a similar, but more engaging form of my booklet. I would like to present somewhere in the middle, so I can see what the audience likes, and adjust accordingly, and so I don't get the stress of being first or last. I am looking forward to Hugo's presentation on Nikola Tesla, Toby M's on Instincts and Tom's on Lavend... Leonardo Da Vinci.

Heading towards the business end... -Will

For me this part in the year is the hardest. On top of school work, sport, social life, family I still have to think about this big thing we like to call independent study. This stage in the year for me is where you really hit the core. Things start piling up and the pressure is on. I feel like right now last year it was easier for me because being a year seven I was care free and didn't know what it would be like in the end (silly me). This year knowing what it could be like is a blessing and a curse. Where I am at right now with my I.S I am feeling semi comfortable but not as good as hoping. I feel like I am finally settled in to school life again but I was a week behind all the other boys and that has set me back. I also realised yesterday that I still have a presentation to do and that I need to stay in the game. At the moment my mind keeps racing ahead of me I keep thinking about college how fun it will be, I keep thinking about my birthday and how fun it will be, I keep thinking about the next holidays and how fun they will be but I am finding it extremly hard to think about right here right now and know that I need to reel myself back in.

One thing for me that I am looking forward to (apart from my one (at the moment) ) is the other boys presenetations. Personally I am really looking forward to Josh's presention as his topic Placemaking as it s a topic that I don't really know much about.

So that's me signing off from 7/8T

Heading towards the business end-Tom A

I think that I am slightly behind on my I.S but I think I can come back. The toilet roll comparison is strange but true as the workload is really picking up.I have my green light and have picked up some interesting facts about him. For example Bill Gates bought the Codex Leicester for $30 million in 1995. Da Vinci was also the first person to find out why the sky is blue. In regards to my presentation I would like to present later rather than earlier but not at the very end.

Heading Toward the Business End Hugo

I really think that the  Independent Study is really speeding up. If you do the maths year 7s only have 9 weeks to finish and year 8s a lot less. I then realised that that isn't a lot of time. People, rise up. Don't game. Do work.
I am looking forward to lot of these Independent Studies and can't wait for week 4 I think. Remember, don't game and

Heading Towards the Business end...-Anish

I am going well with my I.S, got my green light at the start of last term up to writing my book let and presentation. In my SOLO taxonomy I have done about 3 of the activities and close to be starting my model. For me I need to start writing otherwise it is going to be hard time for me in term 4. I am aiming to get get in the top three places of Independent Study, and I will more happy if I get first place. My vision November/December is going quite well and I have got a plan that I will keep in my mind.

Heading towards the business end... -Tim H

I am going very well with my independent study, I am just other a third through (I'm just coming out of the research phase) and I have done some work on the booklet and the presentation. I am very happy with how I am going. The best piece of advice I have been give, I am following, and I can recommend it to everyone is, "Don't play games in class" -Every Year 8 ever
It isnt a problem at all for me to do work at home, and I got a lot of work done over the holidays.
I would rather present later rather than earlier, because the more time I have to work on it, the better it will be.

Don't game in class- Gandalf

Heading for the Buinsness end

I am very happy with were I am at with my independent study. I did do a bit of work over the holidays I did this because I am very interested with my topic (drugs in sport). I would like to go 1st on the year 7s independent study. Overall I think I have done really well so far this year.

Heading Towards the Business end - Ben S

We are almost into the best term of the year. It's the best term because it's full of panic, and sheer terror. It's hilarious, and very fun. It also helps that you have a different presentation every couple of hours, and they are normally very interesting.
My I.S is going fine. I've done much more now than I had done last year, which is good. I also just got a fountain of information, which is nice, and it will play a large part in both my booklet and presentation. I've done a lot more presentation than I have booklet, but that's because I want to get it out of the way as quickly as possible, so there's more time for speeches and my booklet, which are some of the main things. Year 7s, you will really like term four. And we get to see all those people that wasted time (you know who you are), start to worry about getting everything done. Don't worry, though. You will get it done, eventually. You have a large disadvantage because of the West Coast Trip, but it's alright. Once presentations are done, you'll have heaps of time to do your booklet.

And remember, you WILL get it done...

Heading Towards the Business end............................................................................................................................ - Luke

Every weekend I try to do at least one page of my booklet. Last year I handed in a first draft of my booklet in week 9 of term 3. This year however I have almost completed a full booklet and want to turn it in by week 7 or week 8 this term. I have completed all of my writing and all I have to do is make it look fancy and insert the appendices and contents page. I have completed my Writers Notebook title page and as soon as we have completed our last WNB for the year I will be able to hand in a first draft of my completed booklet to Mr Tait.

Heading towards the business end... _Archie.C

In my opinion i'm a bit behind on Independent study because I dont have my green light yet but am hoping to get by next Friday at the latest. The most interesting peice of information I've come across was probably that the Germen long jumper Jesse Owens was comepeting against helped him by putting down a towel about thirty centermetres behind the jumping line and told him to jump from there because he had done three out of three no jumps and had one  jump left. The hardest bit about independent study work at home is to atually sit down and do it when I could be playing cricket or football outside. I want to present later becasue then I will get more of an idea of how it runs and small extra things to add/take away, stuff like that.

Heading toward the business end - Toby M

In comparison with last year I think that I am doing an infinitely better job. I have already done 35 slides on my presentation and I got my Green Light in very early term one. I am really satisfied with the work that I have done and despite the next bit I am focusing on being the hardest I am going to go in head first and come out facing the same way. Personally I really want to hear all about the 1936 Olympics as it looks like a really good topic. I also would like to hear all about cloning as it has always interested me. I would like to present around week 3 as it gives me about 5 weeks to finish my booklet but there is still plenty of time to prepare my booklet.

Heading towards the business end - Noah

I am doing ok with my independent study. I think I am a bit behind because I havent got my green light yet but I think I will be able to get it done in time. The most interesting thing I've come across so far is that clones dont always look alike. I haven't got my green light yet  but I think I'll get it soon. I don't really have a vision for my presentation yet. I think I would like to present late so I know what to do because I've seen other people do it. Noah

Heading towards the business end... - Mr T

Good morning boys.  We are coming up to halfway through our third term and, like a toilet roll, school life seems to be speeding up.  Where are you at with your Independent Study?  How happy are with you with your 'position'?  What has been the best piece of advice you have taken regarding this piece of work?  How much time have you spent reading through the assessment criteria?  What has been the most interesting thing you have come across so far in your research?  How have you collected and stored the information you need?  Have you got your 'green light'?  How much of a problem is it for you to complete I.S. work at home in your own time?  What is your 'vision' for your presentation in November/December?  Would you rather present early or late?  Which other topics are you now most looking forward to hearing/reading about?
